Help with relationship counselling please

Anyone know if here is any kind of relationship counselling which doesn't involve going somewhere and getting childcare?
Just had a massive row with DP and we have agreed that rather than split up we should try counselling but I don't really want anyone to know so don't want to have to get childcare also kids have various clubs most days so it's difficult. Is there any online or phone counselling?

Approach individual counellors and ask if they would come to you for an additional £xx.

Counsellors will usually not visit you - and for good reason.

You don't have to tell anyone why you need childcare, surely? And if you can't find time for counselling, then you're not committed enough to attend, I'm afraid.

I sympathise @lemonface. I have similar issues. We’re going to try and do it while DS is at nursery but that means time off work.

I take your point @afistfull but in reality if you don’t have family who can help (we don’t) then it is very difficult, no matter how committed you might be.

Relate do online and telephone counselling www.relate.org.uk/relationship-help/talk-someone

I understand, MisstoMrs, but I'll still make that point. I've been in therapy for a goodly long time, and I hold a qualification in therapeutic counselling. Both counselling and therapy place a significant expectation on people to attend, and that's really the point: because it isn't easy, and you get to decide how important dealing with your problems is to you.

I can recommend a therapist in Farringdon that does couples therapy online - she uses doxy.me which medical professionals use for security. PM me if you want the details.

There are lots of therapists who do online work but I would only recommend her because of the security provided that the nhs uses.

@afistfull that’s simply the least empathetic set of posts from a counsellor. Seriously? You’re living in bloody cloud cuckoo land if you think that people who can’t make appointments due to childcare responsibilities aren’t somehow committed to trying to sort their lives and issues out.
Go check out your Maslow’s hierarchy. Honestly. Life is sometimes about just scraping by. I agree that actively addressing emotional/mental health issues before they become mental ill-health issues should be essential to all; but they should also be easy to access; not deliberately difficult to show you’re managing to “invest” in them. Hmm

AFistfulofDolores1 · 26/01/2019 23:02

I'm not a counsellor, Wuthering - and sometimes empathy isn't always helpful.

WutheringBites · 27/01/2019 08:57

@afistfull My apologies for assuming you were actively using a qualification.
I can understand why empathy may not always be useful in the context of the actual therapeutic relationship. But in the context of a stranger asking for help and advice on t’internet? Confused
Speaking of which, I’ve not signposted anything useful, for which I also apologise, @Lemon I suspect the thing that might be tricky is the “relationship” but; there are lots of internet based tools which you can access; but I think most are aimed at individuals, not couples. I hope you manage to find something that works. My only advice is try to use recognised and trusted platforms; there’s some weird stuff out there...

AFistfulofDolores1 · 27/01/2019 12:51

Point taken, @Wuthering. I was frustrated by the OP already putting up three blocks to getting help even while asking for it, and that's not particularly helpful of me either.

Thanks for your help
