DP depressed- help!

DP is clinically depressed. Has been for years. Two kinds of anti-depressant and psychotherapy haven’t helped very much. Recently he stopped medication without telling me, and is now worse than ever. We have a young child and I’m the main earner (and that from only working part time! He’s been unable to find a decent job), so things are very tough.

I want to take him to a psychiatrist for a serious diagnosis and treatment. Has anyone had a positive experience with this on the NHS? As I understand, their mental health services are next to non-existent, and I’ve already put DP through enough incompetent doctors, which just upsets him more each time.

Hello sorry you are going through this - no experience to offer but hopefully others can see this and offer advice

He does need to be referred to a psychiatrist, babbayagga, It'll be a kind experience but make sure you do see the doctor, or a doctor, each time and don't be fobbed off with a nurse.

However, after taking everything into consideration, they will prescribe antidepressant medication, some of which may make your husband feel better and some might make him worse. They really don't offer anything else.

For many reasons it's good to have mental health problems well documented, worth going to the psychiatrist just for that.

Good luck. Flowers
