I've not been anywhere much outside Europe. I need to get away and have something to focus on for next year.

Where would you go? I don't know where to start. Maximum time off in one go would be 14 nights.

South America - crime rates can be high and you would have to be in before dark. Wow sweeping statement. Not all of SA is like that.

I was going to suggest Argentina, Buenos Aires is very like a Spanish city and you are fine after dark in the main parts. In fact I felt more at home than in some European cities.

If you want to go see a tango show then yes you go in a taxi, you stay in the venue in San Telmo, and you wait inside until your booked taxi arrives.

Outside BA there is some stunning countryside, Mendoza is lovely and you have to do a visit to a vineyard if you are there. Book a tour from the tourist information.

Have a look at couch surfing, people lend out their pare rooms for tourists, I didn't do that but you can also make contact with locals and go for a coffee and get some local knowledge.

I’ve been to Canada (Vancouver side), Cuba and Sri Lanka by myself. I’ve also been to Argentina and Brazil with a friend. All amazing! Get something booked and try not to worry.
