So my boyfriend has been acting a bit strange re my Xmas presents this year so I had an inkling he was maybe going to propose. The other night when I was moving one of his jackets a jewellery box fell out the pocket but it was bigger than a ring box so I opened it and realised straight away it was a ring. I closed the box without really seeing the ring so didn't know what it looked like.
I have tried to forget about it but this morning when he went to work I checked and it was still there and stupidly opened the box and took the ring out, it really is a beautiful ring but it's too small!
I am absolutely gutted that 1. iv ruined the surprise for myself and 2. I won't be able to wear it on Xmas day.
What the hell do I do? I know that's a stupid question because I can't tell him I found it and ruin the surprise element for him but I also know he will be gutted on the day to find that it doesn't fit me.
I thought that I would still be surprised and emotional when he proposed as I don't know when he is going to do it and also would be looking forward to him actually putting the ring on but now when it happens I'm going to know that it doesn't fit so don't know how I will actually feel when he does it.
I wish I hadn't have looked again today, any tips on what I can do?

Congratulations. Personally I think proposals are better when they aren't surprises, so don't listen to anyone saying you've "ruined it". A big decision like who to partner with for life shouldn't be sprung on you! Now you can look forward to it Smile

£20 on the OP posting under another name boxing day asking why her DP hasn't proposed when she found a ring....

Meangirls36 · 20/12/2018 21:11

Stop rifling through his pockets? Um no she's probably just in charge of laundry/dry cleaning or putting stuff away. I have to check for tissues and weird things that only guys have in their pockets

Do finger exercises so it gets thinner? Grin

ittakes2 · 21/12/2018 06:04

Ring a jeweller, ask if it can be resize and if yes how long to do it ect. At least you'll know what you are dealing with. Hopefully you will be wearing it the rest of your life so an few extra days won't matter - its the proposal that counts not the ring!

Oh I'd be gutted to have ruined the surprise.

DH knows me so well he'd know I was faking being surprised.

You're being given a hard time here, OP.

On the day itself, just wear it on a lovely chain.

For those who are saying it mightn't be for you, ignore. You don't need that to worry about as well at the moment.

Looking back in later life, choose to think either that it was a surprise (just a few days' earlier) or just laugh about it. Years of married bliss will replace what you're feeling now.

And Congratulations for the day.

Have you had it yet @Ruineditformyself

Ruineditformyself · 25/12/2018 13:55

@Youbrokemytwatometer Yes he proposed in the early hours of Xmas eve after we had finally finished wrapping all the kids presents. It was very nice and still a surprise as I thought he was waiting till Xmas day lol. It is only a cheap ring as he wasn't sure it would fit so for now I am wearing that on my pinky finger and get to go ring shopping in the new year for my proper engagement ring but will be keeping this one as it is the one he used to propose.
