I sort of think if you are frustrated with each other it is not such a bad thing.

i some times do this with DP. I think it is because I associate being frustrated as being with the end of my ex when things weren't so great and it just slips out.

Means they associate them with the frustration not you. I hope that make some sort of sense?

pictish · 16/12/2018 00:33

Ach no. Don’t go down that jealous path.

jessstan2 · 16/12/2018 00:36

It happens to a lot of us, especially when half asleep. Or it used to, I'm a bit past passionate dreams now.

What is 'drum'?

Athena51 · 16/12/2018 00:36

In the early days with my DP I called him by my ex-h's name a few times, especially if i was a bit cross. Ex-h and I were together for over 20 years (even if not happy for much of it!) and it was just habit, it certainly didn't mean that I missed my ex. Far from it.

I was embarrassed and apologised but DP was fine and knew it was just a slip of the tongue.

It hasn't happened for years now. It's really not worth being heartbroken over.

Ohyesiam · 16/12/2018 00:41

Slip of the tongue, nothing to get worried about, certainly don’t make a drama about it.

Whats drum

Redglitter · 16/12/2018 00:47

I think being heartbroken is a bit of an over reaction

CandyCreeper · 16/12/2018 00:49

drum typo for drunk?? im guessing...

italiancortado · 16/12/2018 00:50

I call the kids by the dogs name sometimes, I wouldn't sweat this tbh.

stabulous · 16/12/2018 00:51

🙄

Needadoughnut · 16/12/2018 08:46

Well obviously I was extremely drunk although he still feels bad about it. It was just horrible to hear. But I'm over it now

I called my partner my ex's name quite early on in our relationship, when I was trying to get his attention to not get on a train in Paris - I was cross and stressed. I felt embarrassed, he was amused.

It's no big deal, really. Your brain's pathways got a bit scrambled.

whatswithtodaytoday · 16/12/2018 08:50

Sorry - his brain's pathways!

Moussemoose · 16/12/2018 08:52

Names are very difficult for some people to remember. Names don't have a meaning like say 'table' or 'umbrella'. Names are abstract.

It is very, very easy to make a mistake with a name while knowing who the person is.

mumof2sarah · 16/12/2018 08:54

Easily done, especially during upset/frustrated times. I've done it when we've been bickering, he's done it too. I call my kinds/friends and siblings by wrong names lol. I wouldn't take it to heart OP x
