footie season - he goes to football I eat more chocolate AHHHHH!

Hi · 03/08/2002 15:37

I hate it the football season is here again after a week with the children I get even less time to do the housework/grab 5 mins for myself. He gets to go watch the match let off steam, still do something he enjoys and I must just accept it. I get soooo moody and I can't help it I try to grab the mornings of footie Saturdays to myself to just do house things so that the house being an absolute tip doesn't get me down as well (ok not always sometimes I just stay upstairs and take ages to get round to getting dressed) Yes I know he was a footie fan before I married him but must it leave me and the children to have Oh I don't know but it's not fair... yes I know I sound like my darling children but what can I do it's the weekend I hate going out on my own and respect other people/friends "weekend is family time" routine why must he always be able to go to footie when it's a home game or if it's an away game and it means we can go to family for the weekend it suddenly becomes a great time to visit them never mind the children and school/whatever. Sorry just need to rant and rave I'm so angry about it but he doesn't care. He's a good dh/df compared to others but I don't want to compare. Why must I eat chocolate - because it's a short comfort and I can't help it it's all I can do. HELP okay no-one need reply just need to get it off my chest... well trying to. Anyone else out there as pathetic as me must dash ds calls.

Simon Howard - projects??? I'm sure they'd have a less grand title if a woman was doing them!

Bozza · 07/08/2002 16:57

Simon Howard has gone suspiciously quite on this one. Is he playing hard to get?

Hi · 07/08/2002 18:52

typical situation :- started to add another note to this and missed being able to send it after having to see to the children (it's just happened again!) I do sometimes try to get my time on a Saturday morning instead of doing the chores that have waited for far too long and can't wait any longer. To top how miserable Saturday footie makes me feel dh informed me on Monday that he will be taking one or two days off to go and watch the cricket but it's alright it means he will not have to leave home as early as if he was going to work - yipee no seriously yipee!!!!!

I went quiet on this due to being laid up on bed for 3 days with flu.

There is nothing untoward, it's just that most women think that mdel making and wargaming are a bit sad and not something grown men should do.

No beer store, I very very rarely ever drink and then never to excess.

SH, nothing wrong with that, but I could see why you might not shout it from the rooftops - DH's hobby is train photography, which not many in his circle know about, because people instantly think "train spotter!!", which is different.

Lucy123 · 11/08/2002 14:54

I feel for all of you although I have the opposite problem - dp will not have any sport in the house, so I have to snakily watch world cup matches with the sound down...

I am occasionally a computer game widow though...(actually he's an ex-war gamer: SH have you seen Edge of Chaos? haven't got the patience myself)

SoupDragon · 11/08/2002 19:16

Blimey - I'd forgotten about the computer games... DH plays those too! When we got broadband, he discovered Defender (v old arcade game) which you could play online. Sigh

ionesmum · 12/08/2002 12:19

The only reason that dh no longer spends hours on the computer pretending to be a football mananger is because I'm on mumsnet!

SimonHoward · 12/08/2002 12:40

Oh dear.

Looks like I've given people another stick to beat us poor men with.

clary · 12/08/2002 12:44

Oh Hi, I do sympathise, I think we may be married to the same man, my DH also goes to every match and friendlies too. But tho it has to take precedence over most things (luckily our babies were born out of season!) I wouldn't change it; do feel that it's important for him to do sthg he really loves that takes him away from the domestic grind. We share the childcare in the week so perhaps our situation is a bit different and I guess I might feel angrier if I was at home with the kiddies Mon-Fri. But I find the trick is to absolutely plan things for the Saturday so you have a nice busy day; we go swimming every Saturday which is a good thing to do regularly anyway, then perhaps lunch at a cafe, maybe a local event in the afternoon (easier at this time of year with summer fairs etc) and before we know it it's final score and we're hoping for a good result!

Viv · 12/08/2002 13:17

Can't wait for Saturday and the start of the footy season, sad lot that we are we all go, me, dh and dd aged 4 who stands and sings all the songs at the top of her voice with the rest of the crowd.
I do get 'my time' on a Sunday morning too though!!

Jaybee · 21/08/2002 13:03

Soupdragon - get your two boys into football too, then it should only be a few years before you get every Saturday afternoon to yourself - sheer bliss!! My dh and ds (8) head off every Saturday afternoon and leave me and dd (5) to our 'girly days', we go shopping, swimming or similar, we have even had nail painting afternoons - great!!
