After my own experience last year (starting to date again 1 year after a 20+ year marriage) and as it is currently HIV testing week, I thought I’d post to raise awareness.

With about 10,000 people in the U.K. not knowing their status - I’d still be none the wiser if I hadn’t taken myself off to a clinic after my relationship finished - and it becoming more prevalent in the older divorced group of people, if you are not aware of this stuff, please read.

I plan to post some links over the coming week, and am happy to answer any questions.

First link from THT, a bit more detail and where to get tested...

So...last day of HIV testing week. A few links here to help anyone looking for further info or newly diagnosed in the future...

First - my story posted shortly post diagnosis:

Then an AMA I started: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3305732-Im-HIV-positive-AMA

3rd - a bit of women's activism......women make up a third of people living with HIV in the UK, yet we get left out of trials, decision making etc. This year there were moves made by Sophia Forum & THT to address this and make our voices heard: sophiaforum.net/index.php/hiv-and-women-invisible-no-longer/

Next - guidelines now recommend HIV testing as standard in "at risk areas". Leeds Teaching Hospitals is starting a pilot in its A & E departments: www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/leeds-man-opens-up-about-hiv-diagnoses-as-hospitals-reveals-plan-to-test-people-in-a-e-1-9443039

Last but not least...if anyone has just had an HIV diagnosis, or know someone who has, this website is a great resource, and also offers online support: plushealth.org.uk

Brilliant post. Some good info, bloody hell we all need to be more aware of HIV I think. The figures for single midddleaged and above women are horrendous.
