Wants to clear the air and be friends?!

My DP and I split just under 2 weeks ago. Actually he asked for space but it was obvious as he packed that it was over.
It's been difficult but I've started piecing my life together. He just text saying he is sorry it has ended this way and would like to clear the air and hopefully be friends. Why do guys do this? It's just confusing! Part of me thinks it mat be to see my LO (not his son but he was good with him) but he hasn't had any contact in 2 weeks..

OP - I don’t think friendship really works when you split up unless you both no longer have romantic feelings for one another. My ex asked if we could be friends and it’s just proved too hard because there are still feelings there and it’s come close to tipping into something inappropriate too many times.

If you can do a clean break it’ll probably help you heal, being in touch with my ex on a daily basis is taking its toll on me, I’d sooner rather NC

Thanks you for the advice. I text him on wednesday to ask if I could come by for my stuff while he was at work today and he agreed. However, he was there when I arrived. Clean shaven, hair gelled, contacts on and shirt I like on him etc so he was clearly making an effort. He claimed he had a doctor's appointment and asked me to sit for a while. I said no and left. Text him from the car saying I wish he had warned me he was home. He text while I was driving and said he was sorry but wanted to tell me how he felt but couldn't get the words out. He said he will always love me and is sorry it's came to this etc and wished me the best....

What are guys such head fucks?! He isn't that young. We are both 29
