Apologies for the non relationship post but I have NO IDEA where else to put this!

Had an accident this morning, all my fault and I went into the back of someone's car. Hardly any damage to theirs other than a broken light but my car was much worse

Anyway the small problem I have is this, was I even insured? I have recently moved house but STUPIDLY forgot to inform my car insurance. Will they see that as a reason not to pay out?

They might, if you’ve moved to an area that’s higher risk for car claims than where you lived before, or if the move means that you’re clocking up higher mileages per month than you used to.
I think you’ll just have to put in the claim, cross your fingers and see what they say.

@Babdoc thanks!

Only moved 0.7 miles away and it's actually a much nicer/newer street, higher house prices if that makes any difference?

From a quick Google,OP, people seem to think as long as it's obvious you aren't doing anything fraudulently then it should be okay. That's just from reading 3 or 4 forum posts along similar lines though

I've done this and just made out if sent a letter but they must have not got it. Was fine.

Phew! That is a relief!

Does anyone know if my insurance will go up straight away, or would it be when I renew?

Do you have a postal redirecection? If so, no worries.

Your premiums won't increase until your renewal date (and assuming you don't have protected NCD.)

If it's minor damage consider whether you need to claim from your insurance anyway - it may not cost more than your excess. I think strictly speaking you should still inform your insurance company of the bump - though many don't - but you don't HAVE to use their services. Unless the other party insists, but you could just be quick to offer to pay for repairs if you ask them to get a couple of quotes.
