Parents meeting

Hi, one of my first threads...I'd be grateful for any advice.

My BF and I have been together nearly a year - met each other's families etc. He moved in a few months ago. We realised last week that there is an event in January where all our friends and family will be attending - my mum and his mum/dad will therefore meet at this.

Because this sounds like a bad time to meet - very busy...we are performing so not around to smooth stuff over and our family background are very different we are planning to introduce them before this at a pub lunch or something.

I'll add as extra detail that my dad died end of May so I may be overthinking and overprotective of my mum and wanting her to feel comfortable....

Any advice on how you introduced etc and how it went would be fab. Sorry for length of post!

When you say your family backgrounds are very different, do you mean class or something else?

Why not invite them for lunch at yours? That way they know each other before this event and everyone is more comfortable. I don’t honestly remember when our parents/stepparents met each other. Mine live overseas so it may well have no officially been until we were wedding planning. But we had a meal together at my dh’s grandfathers house. I think something relaxed and low-key is good, especially if your mum will be attending this event on her own.

I do mean class, values, types of job etc. It doesn't bother my bf and me, but we want both sets to feel comfy and not awkward.

Lunch at ours might be an idea. Then its less of an event! :)

Lunch at yours sounds good. Then there's no difficulties about where you go, pronouncing things on the menu, expense, who pays etc. Everyone will praise your cooking and admire your home.
