The Ick

Read about this - now I've experienced it for the first time! I simply cannot believe I ever saw anything in the guy. It happened quite suddenly a couple of weeks ago - everything he did or said annoyed me. The feeling wouldn't go. I used to be very fond of him and looked forward to seeing him, and we messaged daily. The messages started to annoy me too - the same sort of stuff I used to find endearing, I began to mentally eyeroll at. I ended it today on some pretext - think he has The Ick too as he wasn't at all bothered Grin

Anyone here experienced this sudden turn around?

I know I have. I imagine most people have. Though I didn't know the phenomenon had a name. It's a good name. It fits.

I’d love to know why this happens as I used to get it a lot and it’s a shame when the guy is otherwise lovely. There is never a way back from the ick once it begins either.

No - no way back! I tried....acted normally over the two weeks except for intimacy. We shared a bed, but seeing him asleep next to me made me want to run screaming! he has been no different, just himself....but EUGH! so awful to feel that, and I would never say "sorry, but I suddenly find you repulsive in every which way" Blush

Definitely experienced it!

Once, a guy who had zero regard for hygiene or presentation (and I don't have unrealistic standards!).

Later, it happened with a man I'd been keen on for years before we got together but when we came to sext one night, he left me cold! Americanisms all over the place (he's from the East Midlands), 'would of' and words such as 'snog' and 'boobies'.

Whatever triggers it, revulsion is a very strong feeling and I don't know how you would shake it off sufficiently to regain any kind of attraction.
