Curious to hear what others think of this dating app etiquette. When someone says: "I hope you're getting along well with [insert name of dating site/app here]."
I've had this from a couple of people I've chatted to on dating sites/apps, one of whom I dated for a bit. In neither case have I been particularly invested with these people so no tears shed whatsoever but I think its a slightly odd thing to say.
If you're chatting to someone online and getting along well there is at least the subtext that you may end up dating and potentially taking things further. Obviously you're not talking about exclusivity or anything at that stage. But saying: "hope you're doing well on the app" to me sort of implies "hope you're getting lots of sex from other people on this app." Which kind of implies "don't get your hopes up, babe, I'm just here sowing my wild oats." For me, basic etiquette would dictate that whatever your motives for being on a dating app you don't talk about it as if you were in a sweet shop choosing raspberry bon bons.
I've read it in both cases as a subtle brush-off/precursor to a letting down and taken it in what I thought the spirit was.
It's probably just mindless chit-chat of the sort people make on dating apps, and I'm sure I'm overthinking. I just think its quite a weird thing to say. Does anyone else find this weird?
