To ask your opinions on 500 Days of Summer...

...if you've seen it of course. I tried posting in films, but it looks one of the more quiet boards and this is more about relationships anyway.

I've been reading an article on this film, and yes, I've seen it a million times and it's nearly ten years old now however I've always thought that JGL was the one in the right in this.

If you've seen it you'll know the story, and I think we are all led to feel sorry for JGL throughout the story as most will feel he's been led on by Summer. But now, 10 years on and as much more of an adult now, I can't help but feeling like she made it clear to him at the time that she didn't want a relationship but he persisted, caught feels for her and this is what resulted in the story. The contrasting side to this is if this was the case, she knew how JGL felt the entire time and did lead him on a little.

So, I'd like to know everyone else's opinions on who was in the right with it?!

She was!

The other girl he goes on a date with sums it up perfectly: she told him she didn’t want a boyfriend right from the start. Not her fault he decided to ignore that!

Her mostly, but I think she enjoyed his affections. Great soundtrack.

I really love this film and one of the reasons that I do is that (in my opinion) they manage to make both sides of the story completely understandable. Neither is really the baddie. I think it captures the bittersweet heartache that ensues with a breakup of a relationship that just wasn't right, rather than as the result of a wrongdoing by one party or the other (or both).

I'm guessing you follow JGL because that's exactly his view if it that he's discussed a few times over the last week. I don't care, though. Tom was cute af 😍

I was going to say the same as a PP, the star himself says he hates if people romantise his characters creepy, and uncalled for behaviour.

I didn't get that when I first watched it, but now I'm older I definitely do. It's like that guy doing the piano thing in Bristol to 'win' his ex back. Years ago I would've loved that, now I just think leave her alone you twat, she dumped you for a good reason!

I love this film! I think what must hurt the most is that yes, she made it clear she didn't want a relationship and prefers being single, but then marries someone else. So she was open to a relationship after all, just not with him and not at that time.

I do follow JGL, but didn't actually realise he had posted similar things about it.

I think the line is quite poignant when they are sat on the bench and she tells him he was correct, there is a person for every one but he wasn't the person for her and not to give up on that. That's the part that gets me everytime.

And yes his behaviour is odd after it ended, but she led him on at the wedding by not mentioning her new boyfriend. That was the one moment I thought she was totally in the wrong.
