Too soon to book a holiday?

I've been dating this guy 4-5 months and things are going well. We are wanting to go away in December and he's wanting to book now however I feel its too soon. December seems quite a while away and although i dont anticipate splitting up it seems far in advance to plan when in a new relationship. Firstly am I being silly and a bit of a comitmentphobe? And if not how do I say this without hurting his feelings?

I dont think theres anything wrong with wanting to book a holiday now but i also dont think there is anything wrong with wanting to wait either.
Im not a commitmentphobe but i am cautious. I have realistic expectations and what i feel is a healthy level of sceptisism when it comes to new relationships so like you i wouldnt feel comfortable to book a holiday yet.
Around 4 months in everything is so new and shiney and that shine can wear off by the 8 to 12 month mark, once you have got to know someone. If that were to happen i wouldnt want anything (such as an upcoming holiday) to cloud my jungement and make it harder to end it (should i realise the we are incompatible). For those reasons i would veer towards lets wait for a bit.
But in reality you dont have to agree on this. He wants to go on holiday, so do you you are just saying lets make that our plan but just wait a couple of months before we commit ourselves to it.
I would explain this to him and his reaction will tell you alot. A sulky stroppy response because you dont agree would mean i would happily end it. Understanding of your boundaries and comfort zone and an agreement to compramise and wait a few more weeks would be the reaction i would be looking for.

If it helps, I met someone online in December and in March we booked a holiday for May. Very unlike me and I had to deal with a lot of very negative comments from people (including the 'well if you don't get on while on holiday you'll need to break up 😂)

We had a great time and are still together 5 years later!

I'm like you OP.
I'd be taking my time.
Can you tell him you'll book the time off and then in November that you can look at last minute deals together?
Might be a good compromise?
