Just seen this on Twitter Blush (photo attached via app). Is it true that a photo of me pushing my trolley into the wall at Platform 9 3/4 would be a turn off?

I'm not dating yet (I'm refusing while I appear to have active HPV - long story - can't be arsed name changing). But when I start again, the photo of me at Platform 9 3/4 is one of my best body shots! My arse looks fabulous!!

Congratulations on the fabulous arse! However I guess the person in question was referring more to not being remotely interested in HP, so it was a clear message that they would not be interested in someone who was. Not everyone would have such a reaction so go for it if you like the pic.

ComtesseDeSpair · 01/08/2018 10:10

Pretty much any photo which involves you doing something is making a statement about your personality and what you like and enjoy, so I wouldn’t read much into it. For somebody who finds it ridiculous for an adult to get excited about children’s books, I guess your 9 3/4 photo would put them off. The same would probably go for photos of you rock climbing or cycling for somebody who loathes sports and outdoor exercise. Ultimately, OLD is about finding people you match with who like the same things you do - in which case, your photo would attract fellow Potter fans, and is therefore a good photo.

Just be yourself when you are dating. There's no point otherwise.

ShatnersWig · 01/08/2018 10:24

Yes to being yourself. You want someone who likes you for you.

I can't abide Harry Potter, so it would probably put me off, but then you presumably want someone who shares some of your interests, so I'd not be your target audience anyway.

SunflowerJo08 · 01/08/2018 10:25

If you're trying to attract people who you would have common ground with, then yes, I would use that photo - why not? If someone had a real particular interest, that interested me, I'd be attracted by a photograph demonstrating that. Likewise if they were doing something I can't stand, I'd appreciate the heads up and not waste both of our time.

Janusrock · 01/08/2018 10:43

From my online dating days I remember a lot of people using this photo. It's not very original and may put off someone who thinks Harry Potter is childish- but then why would you want to attract such a person anyway!!

If you want to meet a Harry Potter fan who appreciates a good arse then go ahead and use the photo

hellsbellsmelons · 01/08/2018 11:47

I think it depends on who you are looking for.
A photo like that would state that you like Harry Potter.
Some men might find that weird - some love Harry Potter as well.
Be you!
But for the love of god, no pics with filters, or fish, or in lycra, or deep sea diving, or jumping off mountains, etc.......

DrFoxtrot · 01/08/2018 14:04

Thanks everyone! I’m not a massive Harry Potter fan, it was just a good full length photo of me. I guess I hadn’t fully thought about the other aspects of my personality that people would glean from the photo. But a Harry Potter fan that likes a nice arse would probably be a good match for me Grin.

I've seen men who put on their profiles that they don't want to see pets and groups of friends, but as an animal lover, I like if they show a picture of their pets. I also like to see them in a group and laughing.

However, if it's a picture of a motorbike, flexing muscles at the gym or holding a fishing rod, then they're not for me.

userxx · 01/08/2018 16:14

Why are you not dating with HPV? 99% of people have it. Ignore that question if too nosy.

isseywithcats · 01/08/2018 16:57

when i was on POF i had a full length pic of me with Valletta in Malta as the background, one taken in Edinburgh, one taken indoors, and on my profile said i like cats but didnt have any cat pictures at all

DrFoxtrot · 01/08/2018 19:40

I have high and low risk HPV and found out today at the colposcopy that the high risk type is not the two usual strains 16 and 18. The low risk strain is still ‘active’ Blush I don’t really want to spell it out but you can google the physical effects of low risk HPV. My body just isn’t clearing it, I’ve had it for 16 months now Sad

I’ve tried numerous herbal remedies including AHCC, cimetidine, and bought myself the HPV vaccine to see if it would boost my immune system. I’m just going to have to wait for my body to clear it and I’d rather be clear and lessen the chances of passing it to anyone else.

I’ve got bigger things to think about than Harry Potter pics clearly GrinGrin

Ahhh alright my love, say no more. You'll get there. So wish the hpv vaccination was available years ago 😞

DrFoxtrot · 01/08/2018 20:51

Thanks Smile two years or so out of dating is nothing in the grand scheme of things. When I’m lonely though, I like to imagine what my profile would be like and what Harry Potter photos to use Grin 🎻
