Walking on eggshells

Hi everyone, my husband flies off the handle very easily and can be very jekyll and Hyde! Yesterday our twins had a bickering session, which is normal for them, but he flew off the handle saying they weren't going to their kickboxing class and he was selling the xbox. I'm sorry but is this classed as a normal reaction?? The majority of the time I'm walking on egg shells and try not to say anything to upset him, if he does fly off the handle he says he's had enough, he takes the car keys so I can't get to work, I'm self employed, and either ignores me for a few days then pretends everything is fine or says he wants a divorce to which I try to sort things out for the sake of our boys. I'm so tired of it x

Nah it's not normal. It's shit.
Has he always been like this?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 26/07/2018 14:47

says he wants a divorce

Next time he says this, agree and say you want one too. This is no way to live and no way for your kids to learn that this is what a relationship looks like. You deserve better and so do they.

Why are you actually still together?.

No it is not a normal reaction from him at all. There is no justification or excuse for such behaviour and the only acceptable level of abuse in a relationship is none.

Do not do your bit here to teach your boys that yes, this is how men treat women. Its unacceptable and next time he says he wants a divorce go right ahead and say you want this as well. Infact I would tell him asap you want out of this marriage.

No it’s not normal at all.

Thedutchwife · 26/07/2018 15:24

He’s bullying you all.

I’d go ape if dh took my car keys

Shoxfordian at first it would be now and again he'd blow up, we've been together 16 years, but the last 3/4 years it's nearly every month. I'm starting to feel sick when I know he's due home me from work and have horrendous anxiety too

Can you talk to a solicitor? It's not ok and you sound so unhappy.

Honeybee05 · 26/07/2018 16:41

AttilaTheMeerkat think we're still together because I've been trying to keep the peace and hold my family together for my children, now feel like I'll not cope without him.
Shoxfordian I saw one a while ago and he said that I'd keep the boys, as dh was telling me he'd take them and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Sol said he was talking out of his butt and they could go to court to get my car back etc. Think what I'm more worried about is that he would stay in the house if we split and would make life extremely hard. So may move to rental with the boys until the house is sold, that way he has no control over me so to speak x
