My sixty year old husband requested to be friends with 9 year old grandchild of one of our customers on social media. I think this is completely inappropriate. Opinions?

I would find this very strange and highly inappropriate.
The fact that he lied about it would send alarm bells ringing too.
I don't have anyone under 16 on any of my social media because they are boring and talk about 'pop ups' and 'like for likes' all day.
What would he have in common with a child of 9?
Beyond grim in my opinion.

Has he removed her ?

TheDrinksAreOnMe · 30/04/2018 11:14

Why is a man of that age even encouraging a 9 year old to use social media, cause effectively he’s making it look “okay”

Am I missing something here? Why do so many children have social media accounts
It’s shocking. Couldn’t dream of my 9 yr old having it for a second. No way!!!

@yellowcushion

I've no idea if she's been removed as I don't use Instagram. She's not on his Facebook.

@TheDrinksAreOnMe

I totally agree with you. I have a granddaughter the same age and her mother wouldn't allow this.

Your feelings are definitely not over sensitive.

Drinks
No me neither! My girl is 8 but she's still happy digging in the garden... she's aware of fb but has no interest in it really and even if she did she's going nowhere near for another few years!

anothernamechange538 · 30/04/2018 12:09

Thank you all. He's removed her. Says that she asked a group in the pub to connect up with her and didn't see any harm in it. She was trying to out do her sister in the popularity stakes apparently.

He's apologised and acknowledges that it was a stupid thing to do.

Can I just say when my husband started using the social media, he is in his 30s the dopey fucker literally added everyone that came up in suggestions, he said he thought that's what you do. Grin
I had to explain that's its just suggestions from an algorithm. He was mortified
