BF’s ex fiancé disappeared with her money and has turned up as new fiancé to wealthy, minor American celebrity

My best friend was engaged to a man for two years who disappeared 6 months ago and it turned out he had conned her out of much of her savings.

He has since turned up on a minor celebrity’s social media as her new fiancé. She is - as my BF was to him - an older, wealthier woman, who he seems to have taken in, as he did my BF.

Their wedding has been really hyped up abroad and they have an exclusivity deal with a gossip magazine in Europe. All social media posts are about it - choosing the venue and the dress and the food. He also appears to have changed his name but is of course recognisable from his picture on her social media.

My BF is thinking of making a comment about him to warn her, in the woman’s social media page comments. Due to lack of getting other access to her. Do you think this is the wrong thing to do? Or there’s a more sophisticated way to approach it?

Send an email to her manager?

Are you going to tell us who it is? Grin

AnachronisticCorpse · 28/03/2018 17:18

Can she find out who her agent is and contact them? I wouldn’t do it publicly on social media.

TheMythicalChicken · 28/03/2018 17:20

What an interesting story! I would contact him and ask for the money back or I’ll let the new fiancé know what he’s like.

Tell us who it is so we can all leave messages Grin

Babymamamama · 28/03/2018 17:23

Fascinating. I would want to seek legal advice before doing anything. Libel and all that.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/03/2018 17:23

Definitely try to finder her management company and tell them the details.

Twinkie1 · 28/03/2018 17:24

Just ring the police.

whichwayisitnow · 28/03/2018 17:24

If this bloke conned her out of money, she knows where he is, so surely he can be reported to the police and they can deal with it. Your BF might get into trouble with the law if she puts an accusation like that on social media.

Wealthy American minor celebrities are likely to have lawyers and a watertight prenup, so he won't be able to get his hands on her money unless she gives it to him willingly. And I guess it's up to her to do what she likes with her money.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 28/03/2018 17:25

ASk him directly for the cash owed mentioning you notice he’s getting married

ItsAllDoomAndGloom · 28/03/2018 17:28

Also agog. Sorry nothing useful to add...

Guiltypleasures001 · 28/03/2018 17:30

Phone the news desk of the gossip rag covering the wedding they get 2 for 1
She could make some money from the story

ChickenMom · 28/03/2018 19:26

Police, solicitor, journalist, management company in that order.. she should definitely hire a lawyer to get her cash back!

CalmBeforeTheWave · 28/03/2018 20:09

Gatecrash the wedding and say "Noooooohh....!"

category12 · 28/03/2018 20:14

She could sell her story, all sad face holding a photo of them together.

wheretoyougonow · 28/03/2018 20:14

Get you friend to sell her story and recoup the money that way?

whatthejeff12 · 28/03/2018 20:19
