Any women's refuges where you can take a dog?

Hi

Sorry, bit of an odd question I know, but friend needs to make an exit from the family home, but cannot leave the dog behind, and she wants the dog for comfort anyway. However her local woman's refuge can't accommodate a dog, so I am trying to find out if there is anywhere that might.

Partner is being released from police custody later today.

When my partner was released from custody for assault the police made it part of his bail conditions that he wasn't allowed to return to the house ( although we lived together it was in my name) would this be possible.
I'm pretty sure that they don't let pets in refuges because of the other people living there.
Not ideal but the ODDS do rehome pets in the case of domestic violence when the victim has to go to a refuge. Failing that is there any dog homes that offer short term fostering service as in these situations as a short term solution. Might be worth calling around to see if they can advise of any such schemes. Poor little doggie I'd look after him for her if I didn't have one myself. I hope your friend is ok.

PDSA not ODDS sorry

There was an article on local news recently about an organisation that arranges fostering for dogs for people going into refuges. I will try and find it for you.

If you Google 'dog fostering domestic violence' you will find a whole host of organisations so hopefully there's something local to you.

Thank you,

I will let her know that dog fostering might be possible. She is saying that the dog is the only thing helping her to leave, I just hope that this time she can keep away from him.

She is jointly renting the house, so the police have advised her to go somewhere safe where he can't find her, as he would almost certainly break any barring orders to try to talk her around again.

I just keep praying that this is the time she will find the strength not to go back again.

Many of the big animal charities have links to the freedom project (RSPCA, Dogs Trust and Cats Protection all do) and will foster pets of owners fleeing domestic violence until the owner is in a position to take them back. Have a google or ring these organisations for more area-specific help.

What area of the country does your friend live in?

I spent 7 months in refuge last year and fortunately my mum was able to take my dog so was able to see him frequently and it’s awesome having him back.

The refuge should be able to put her in touch with someone about having the dog fostered whilst she’s there if the dog is unable to go to family or friends.

A lady there at the same time as me had her cats fostered and she kept in touch with the cats and was sent pics of them and paid small amount weekly towards their upkeep whilst they were fostered but she was able to bring them to her new home.

All the best to your friend.
