i know this is the wrong place to post this but i need answers fast, my toilet has been a bit funny for a few days and today it is totally blocked up, i have honestly been upstairs just now with gloves on pulling out handfulls of stuff (dd2 craps about 8 times a day) it seems to have all backed up!!!

its sitting half full of horrible brown water just now and wont go any further down WHAT THE HELL DO I DO!!! i cant call a plumber out when its in this state i would die on the spot, but my parents are coming down tonight and i need it fixed.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU UNBLOCK A TOILET!!!

have you tried your kitchen sink plunger? (you can buy a new one)

MamaApronstrings · 03/05/2007 16:42

try a plunger - it happens to ours quite frequently - we have 4 kids and lactose intolerence!

spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:44

how on earth do you use a plunger!!!! and where can i buy one right now. this is so not funny

don't you have a PLUNGER?

it is a very basic tool

You could glue your Mooncup to a stick

spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:45

i had heard before that if you flush the toilet as soon as the cistern fills up again the pressure will clear it but flood your bathroom, no way can i let that happen just now

To get DynaRod out will cost about 150 quid. They will try to use plunger down toilet to remove any blockage at that end. If not they will use rods through the rodding point of your waste pipe to remove blockage further down the line.
They are well used to working with overflowing unpleasantness.

Plunger from local DIY shop?

(re-reading my post - can you tell we have recently had drain 'issues'? )

stepfordwife · 03/05/2007 16:49

poo-r you...
in the absence of a plunger, get your loo brush and shove it quite vigorously so it's going up the back bit, iyswim. just keep going and the water level should go down. not for the faint-hearted but just keep going - like you're cleaning the loo on acid.

it does, work, honest!

warning: may scratch the enamel, though, like i did in a similar situation. better than the alternative though, eh?
oh, and take, note of my disclaimer: don't sue me if this doesn't work..
good luck!

ScoobyDooooo · 03/05/2007 16:49

Where abouts are you my dp is a drainage engineer?

spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:49

OP posts:
spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:51

OP posts:
Tigana · 03/05/2007 16:51

never looking at the plumber again or having to nip next door for a crap for the rest of your life?????

Freckle · 03/05/2007 16:52

Caustic soda. Follow the instructions and keep children well away.

spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:53

feck feck i dont have a normal bog brush i have one ofthose stupid toilet duck things do you think a mop would work

OP posts:
Tigana · 03/05/2007 16:54

yep, mop'll do the job.

spotofbother · 03/05/2007 16:55

right will go try that dont fancy nipping next door for the loo im doing the special k diet just now but swapped the specail k for all bran

alipiggie · 03/05/2007 16:57

Second the caustic soda - but be very careful. You need to get a plunger, plunge away and then use the caustic soda. Wet toilet wipes if shoved down more than a few at a time are notoriously bad for blocking drains as are tampons. Sorry if tmi. Good luck.

you ladies are fantastic thank you so much!!!!! it took about 6 attempts of plunging (with a bloody mop) and flushing in between but it finally cleared. im not even going to begin to describe what was coming away as i was plunging but it was not nice. i dribbled a bit of yukky stuff on he floor when i was trying to get the mop into a carrier bag so i have scrubbed that by hand and i had to use a good towel to cover the carrier bag as it had a small hole in the bottom but boy was it worth i.
