How does your DH speak to you?

Put yourself in this scenario:

Hubby is out of the room so you decide to relax and lie on the sofa with your legs up...5 minutes later he comes back in, walks over to the couch and says:

a) excuse me...
b) move your legs please or
c) budge

which is most likely from your DH?

Also, if he was laid across the couch and you walked over blatently wanting to sit down would he:

a) stay where he was until you asked him directly to move or
b) move straight away?

Right, I've only read the OP (will see how we compare to everyone else in a minute!)

Actually he'd probably just go and sit on the other sofa, but I suppose if that was out of the question he'd say c, or the equivilent or just sit on my legs.

Also, if he was laid across the couch and you walked over blatently wanting to sit down would he:

a) stay where he was until you asked him directly to move or

probably a, because we've got two sofas, but he's sometimes moved after i've gone for the other sofa, just so we can sit together. I'd just sit on his legs if he was in the way.

Right, let's read the rest.......

Oh, yes I'd agree with the others - it's not what they say it's the intent behind it. I'd imagine me and Dh can sound like we're being quite 'rude' or impolite to each other, but after 20 years I think you're allowed a few verbal shortcuts.

monkeyandcheekychops · 08/05/2007 12:29

My dp has sat on me on a number of occasions when I haven't moved over fast enough!

We normally say budge to each other but in a jokey way, and I've also been known to push his feet so much he falls off the sofa!

We're more likely to fight over covers at bedtime than the sofa though!

monkeyandcheekychops · 08/05/2007 12:33

Just read that back and it sounds a bit violent! DS has a beanbag next to the sofa so he landed on that! And we were laughing about it as he struggled to get back off the beanbag!

Lazycow · 08/05/2007 12:37

a)more likely to just hover until I took the hint actually he is so polite

b)

CheesyFeet · 08/05/2007 12:41

"shift yer arse you lazy cow"

teasingly of course

vice versa too.

More likely to have to move the cat than dh if I need to sit down.

AnneJones · 14/05/2007 12:49

Prob none of the above, would hover expectantly until room was made; if no room made would chuck self down on his legs (and he would prob do the same).

We have two sofas - we often end up sitting on the same half of one sofa anyway (we like to snuggle).

Was this more of a thread about respect though? DH and I don't always even say things to one another but we're quite atune to each other. He always treats me with utmost love and respect and I love and respect him for it - I know it isn't always so.

Boobsgonesouth · 14/05/2007 12:51

...would say "would you like a foot rub darling" then do exactly that (and NOT expect sex in return !!)

and B

Hulababy · 14/05/2007 12:52
  1. mixture of all 3; (c) siad in joking way not bossy/rude.
  1. b
LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 14/05/2007 12:53

a

adn C( when he looked away from sport on tv)

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 12:55

Yes a and b. Mine is far from perfect but he has manners and shows me respect in everyday situations.

dragonstitcher · 03/07/2007 10:40

For the first one I'd either get a dirty look or some reference to me being lazy or not doing something more useful.

Second one, he'd completely ignore me.

Lizzylou · 03/07/2007 10:42

B and B, if he said Budge, it would be in a jokey way.

Mind you we're normally on seperate sofas whilst DH revises for some exams these days.
