Need to find a place ASAP

So after leaving my abusive partner
I've spent the weekend at my mums
He's been so horrible to me, after putting me through so much pain, after forgiving him I just can't give him anymore chances.....
Today I have to go home and face the music although he's not back until tomorrow
I've said I will find somewhere ASAP and I've spent the weekend looking
I've managed to get a viewing for this week and hoping I'll hear back about the others I've messaged

My problem is every single one I've looked at says no housing benefit

How do people do it ? I work but I also have a lo and I don't earn what they expect you to earn £20 something k a year.

I will have to ask my lo father to guarantor which won't be a nice feeling as he told me last year when I was thinking of moving he wasn't really happy about it ( well his gfriend wouldn't be ) even though he was already guantor for the flat I was in but he did that long before he met her. Anyway say he will
Do it. It still says no housing benefit.

I've said I work, claim working tax credits and that's how I can afford it
My friend said to leave telling them about the housing benefit as legally the landlord doesn't need to know but I feel so uneasy and after Leaving my abuse boyfriend on Friday I still feel hurt and sad and know I have a battle ahead of me

I'm really worried. Any advice much appreciated

X

Ohh haven't heard of that, thank you

I'm going to the viewing anyway and just seeing if I can get it
But I'll have a look, thanks

There’s also a site called dssmove I think. Or something like that maybe dssrent

girlplus · 21/01/2018 09:59

Thank you I'll also check that out

Thing is I got my place 4.5 yrs ago just fine and it was through a letting agency
I pretty much work full time and I can't work anymore hours as a single mum
If I don't claim the housing benefit part and try do over time I can survive this way
I really like the look of the place I'm viewing this week

Keep looking...I had that problem but there are some landlords that aren't bothered. I really don't know why they say that, as the money is more guaranteed, if it was someone working full time, they could lose their job etc.

My dad also was unsure about being a guarantor, thought it was risky but was OK in the end. Don't feel bad about it.

girlplus · 21/01/2018 13:39

Exactly! That's what I don't get
I've always worked - no offence to people who don't but I've always found a fob and I earn good money
I pretty much work full time but luckily my job allows me to but it is hard as I have little family members that help childcare just nanny and grandad the odd weekend as they both still work so I rely on clubs
My boyfriend and mum help out and I had half term covered but now it's turned everything upside down
I know I'll be ok I'm just scared a bit.
It's comforting to know there are places out there so fingers crossed if I like the viewing on Wednesday I can wing my way in there without highlighting I have to claim?! As I know I can afford it
Thanks for the advice x

dont DWP have to know your current address and landlord details to calculate your housing benefit allowance?

loveyoutothemoon · 21/01/2018 14:15

I've been there, and you'll get through it.

Sorry but if you work nearly full time, you might not get housing benefit, my single parent friend has increased her hours and doesn't get it anymore (and she doesn't work full time). You'll get working tax though probably. You need to get to the benefits office asap, I think you can claim after separation, even if you're still living together, as long as he's not paying for things. The payments can take several weeks to go through, but they back date it, so you'll need to be quick!

Yes of course I'll be telling dwp
I used to claim before moving in with my partner and my previous landlord never knew I claimed housing benefit as in no one from
Dwp / housing benefit told him
It came up in conversation as in he said he didn't care if I claim or not as he said I was working that part was up to me
My question is actually getting into a rental
I will then inform dwp and of course housing benefit
Yes I still get it, only a little bit as I say full time it's not - it's 4 days a week and I'm just under the bracket
