Anyone heard of Mail Tracker?

My (now-ex) bf is blocked on all media except email as we needed to liaise about closing a joint bank account.

He's just sent me an email and in the inbox where you can preview the subject and first line or so of the body of the email is something along the lines of app.mailtracker.com etc. This doesn't appear in the email itself.

Google says it's an app to see whether someone has read your emails. I've left him because he's controlling and has basically been emotionally abusive. Has anyone come across this or maybe know how to disable it?

Hmmmmmm you may be able to read it in a browser window with the "do not track" option turned on to defeat the tracker app.

Also, turning off automatic image loading should nobble it.

Thanks @c3pu . I'm not much of a tech whizz, I just can't decide if it's weird that he should be tracking my emails. I wouldn't mind if it was just a read receipt thing but the website talks about your location "and much more". Maybe I'm being paranoid.

From what I can tell, the app inserts a small picture into the email... If your email client automatically downloads the picture when the email is read, the server where the email is hosted gets some information on who is accessing the image - device, ip address, location etc - all fairly standard stuff, but not usually available to consumers.

The tips I gave about opening in a browser with "do not track" enabled should prevent the server getting the information, and if you turn off the automatic downloading of images then that should stop it too.

What email client are you using?

I'd be inclined to find a public computer in a library or cafe, and open the email there!

Mail (?) on an iPhone mainly.
