CAB for initial separation/divorce advice...paperwork?

For the second time last night I told my husband I want to split. Was persuaded to try again the first time. This time I need to follow through.
I am literally clueless. All I have managed to do so far is take screenshots from our banking app of current bank balance, savings balance and mortgage balance.

Can someone tell me what paperwork I should look for? He has been very much in charge of finances. Also should I hurry to open my own bank account and request my wages go into that? Currently joint accounts.
Thought I might go to CAB today for initial advice. Thank you.

Is your husband employed or self employed?
That will have an impact on paperwork.

Much more simple if he's employed - if you can get access to them, take a photo of his payslips.

Are there Pensions or investments? Get copies of those too. Other bank accounts?

Not all divorce procedures are fraught with difficulty. Why has he been in charge of finances? Was that a joint choice or do you think he's hiding money?

He is employed. Ok will look for payslips in a minute thank you. He also has a military pension.
He has been in charge of finances because I let it be that way. Not sensible I know, but I am certain he isn't hiding money.

Yes get your own bank account. Truthfully I'd be tempted to transfer half of any savings there too. From my own experience divorce isn't as difficult as people often expect (or maybe I was just lucky) if you ring your local county court they'll talk you through the process.

Do try and agree finances / children with your OH in advance when you're still on good terms though. Once proceedings are issued people's reasonableness can go out the window just because they're over stressed.

Finally. Try not to worry. Millions have been there and survived, no thrived. Promise.

I so appreciate that reply, thank you. You don't know what it has done for me. Just the sort of words I needed. Ok will get onto getting my own bank account. Thank you.
