So

Over the last few weeks I've spent many time with my girlfriends, were in a huge whatsapp group chat where we communicate throughout most days. We've had girls nights out etc. We are all friends as our children are the same age. They are friends so I'm turn we've become friends. Some of us have just one child, all the way up to one of us having 5. Our of the 8 of us. 4 are single.

The general advice given to me and the other single girls are; don't worry, they will realise the grass isn't greener and come back.

So it got me thinking, how long should people wait for the grass to no longer be greener? How long do the rose tinted glasses take to fade?

Obviously all our situations are different we to why we are single btw

Who will realise the grass isn't greener and come back? Confused

Louiseandhercubs · 18/12/2017 14:19

Sorry I should have been clear 🙈

So for the exs who walked out (some were kicked out so I assume doesn't count to them)

So how long if you were waiting for the ex that left to realise the grass isn't greener and come home. How long would you wait?

It's advice I've seen thrown around a lot and I just think it's such strange advice when you think about it.

If greener means shagging someone else why would any of them want them back?
Urgh no way.

Pidlan · 18/12/2017 14:24

It's patronising bullshit...

Annelind · 18/12/2017 14:30

Very 1950s. Little woman waits patiently for her man to repent of his errant ways and return to Hearth and Home. Fuck that noise!

debbs77 · 18/12/2017 14:31

Why on earth would anyone consider waiting???

MorrisZapp · 18/12/2017 14:31

Well, never I suppose, if they've met someone else, sorry.

Although my dads friend had an affair and left his wife then did come back. But I don't know the details.

Karigan1 · 18/12/2017 14:32

Why on earth are you waiting on men to see the grass isn’t greener? The minute they leave you love on. Meet people. Gonon dates and try to find someone who actually wants to stay.

Louiseandhercubs · 18/12/2017 14:45

I'm personally not waiting for anyone ot anything. I was just going off what advice is floating around. Is that and "oh wait till they see what they've lost they will be back"

I suppose I've also seen the vast majority of my friends even my mum and step dad, be together, split up, then they get back together and are stronger than ever.

I wouldn’t wait at all, they can piss off. But I’d enjoy laughing in his face if he did come back.

PNGirl · 18/12/2017 16:50

That is terrible advice. You need better friends! Who wants a man back who has been busy sticking bits of himself into a woman across town? All these woman need to find a man who will treat them well.

PNGirl · 18/12/2017 16:50

*women

pallisers · 18/12/2017 16:52

I wouldn't wait ten minutes.

Tearsoffrustration · 18/12/2017 17:50

you don’t wait - you move on

Mari50 · 18/12/2017 18:50

Yeah, interesting advice.
Why would you hang around waiting for someone who has behaved like that?
But as you asked the question- it took my ex 2 years of separation, 10 months of shagging someone else and the minute I met someone else to realise that the grass wasn’t any greener.
But he can fuck right off.

FuckedUpPanda · 19/12/2017 10:27

I'd imagine on many occasions there is an element of coming back, break up with the new missus, missing seeing the kids, finding being single isn't a life of nubile 20 year olds throwing themselves at your middle aged paunch etc, doesn't mean they're taken back though!

Louiseandhercubs · 19/12/2017 11:31

Yeah exactly.

I've only ever taken one ex back and that was when I was 17.

It's just I saw that advice floating about so often and it got me thinking.

I do believe people can change but then change takes time, but if your apart too long there's no point getting back together.

It is a strange predicament

OP posts:
hellsbellsmelons · 19/12/2017 11:37

How long would you wait?
A nano-second!
WTF would anyone 'wait'?
What? To be the 'chosen one' eventually.
Fuck that!

category12 · 19/12/2017 11:41

Why would you hang on for someone who doesn't want you? Who doesn't choose you? Why don't these women value themselves at all?

TheNaze73 · 19/12/2017 14:43

Do people actually do this???

Babyblues052 · 19/12/2017 14:49

I wouldn't wait on someone not a chance but I have said this to friends. As in wait until the realise what they are missing and they come crawling back and you get the satisfaction of saying "fuck off guess the grass wasn't greener and I've moved on" that kind of thing. Not in a way to say wait for them until the realise they have made a mistake anf take them back
