Different type of guy

So, I'm 28, 2 kids. Seperated from my husband over a year ago. Spent 9 years together, things moved fast early on. The relationship was mentally abusive and controlling and a year on I am feeling so much better.

I have recently started talking to a guy I met on an online dating website. He's the absolute opposite to my ex, he's 10 years older than me. Very career focused, patient, non pussy... Enjoys his own space and time. Very much like me. I know since my ex I definitely need to change the type of person I go for. We have met twice over the past few weeks, we talk everyday. He's not too local and is very busy with work and his children which I quite like as it means we can take our time, which is something I have learnt since my ex!

He's very kind and has been nothing but patient. He really wants to take his time too.

Is it possible after an abusive relationship to re-programme your mind and make better choices in men? Or do we always fall back into old ways!?
