Just in case it comes to it, is there a bank account that I can open up that won't send anything to my home address??

I'm pretty certain they can all do this, though I think you'd get letters if you went overdrawn (that shouldn't affect you.)

londonloves · 27/09/2017 09:41

First direct should let you do everything paperless I think.

SandyY2K · 27/09/2017 09:54

There are several online only accounts. You can also ask about it within the branch.

hellsbellsmelons · 27/09/2017 09:56

I'm with Santander and do everything on-line.
You can also just bank via your phone.
Most accounts tend to be paperless but make sure you double check.
If you can go into branch then do that.
Do NOT set up a private bank account with the same bank you currently bank with though.
Just in case.

Helping DSIL do this at the moment. I second the point about it being at a bank you & DP/DH (especially DP/DH) have no other dealings with.

NachoAddict · 27/09/2017 12:25

Do you have a friend or family member that would let you use their address instead, just as a precaution?

Good luck for the future and getting out.

CousinKrispy · 27/09/2017 12:33

First direct does not do this, they send a giant envelope to your hours marked "PRIVATE" which your controlling partner will then open of course. This is for opening the account--presumably everything after that can be paperless.

I called FD to find out if they couldn't send it to my work address but they refused.

dramallamakarma · 27/09/2017 12:42

Any account with a debit card will send that & the pin to your home address. Have you a local building society you can go into that just uses a book rather than card?

woodstack · 27/09/2017 12:47

Maybe Metro Bank? We walked in to open an account and walked out half an hour later with cheque book and debit card in hand. Can't remember if they sent anything home though..

londonloves · 27/09/2017 12:51

Sorry my mistake re first direct.

dantdmistedious · 27/09/2017 12:55

I think I'm right in saying Metro bank do it all in the bank, they hae ads saying they can do it in your lunch hour and they even print the debit cards in the bank.

BertieBotts · 27/09/2017 12:58

I set one up with a c/o address. I think I took my mum with me to set up the account and she brought ID and a utility bill to confirm the address but I can't remember now. IIRC I picked up the debit card in branch, because I remember being particularly worried about this and asking them to confirm several times. Ask them what you'd need. You can say you're in a controlling relationship if you want, that's what I did.

If you are married then in the event of separation and divorce the law will require you to declare all of the assets that you own, including bank accounts, and consider them when it comes to a division of assets of the marriage.

If you did not own a particular bank account (IYSWIM) and the statements went to the person whose name it is in, then it couldn't be considered, could it?
