How can you learn to trust someone?

Apologies if this subject has been discussed countless times before. Just wondered, those of you amongst us who've been really badly let down by someone they trusted implicitly, can you ever trust anyone again? Am intrigued as I was let down by the one person I thought never would let me down, and well over a year later I still cannot see a point in the future where I will ever trust anyone. Sorry if this sounds a bit depressing , it's really not meant to be, I am genuinely interested in how other people with trust issues have got over them, as I would love to trust again but just don't think in all honesty that I can. Am hoping someone may have some words of wisdom they could please impart.

Ok this helped me. TRUST what is it anyway. Something in YOUR head. You trusted them and they done it anyway. This helped me as now I have just learned to be at peice with it all.Does that make sence.

Hi thanks, yes that does help. Probably didn't make it clear in the OP, I won't ever trust ex H again, it's more to do with trusting other people that come into your life, getting past thinking that they're going to do the same to you as ex did. Which, as my friend pointed out to me, is really not being fair at all but it's just how I feel.

Surely if you have had that experience then you learn from the mistakes and take that forward with another person.
