Can someone explain this to me please? Male perspective would be good!

I have a really good friend who recently met a guy on Match, he lives outside of the UK but oddly used to live where my friend grew up. They have been talking, Skype whatever for a 4 months. She was very wary of meeting someone this way she likes to get to know someone face to face but went with it.

They have had many hours of talking about everything apparently and began to make plans to meet when he returned to see his kids and family, both excited both happy, my friend let her guard down and has been so happy of late.

He's come back and yep you guessed it, no date..he's only been back a few days and text her to say "I don't make plans usually I go with the flow" Hmm they had a few more exchanges but for the last 2 days he's not contacted her at all. (She hasn't text or called him either as she wanted to give him time to be with the family his children etc)

Why do people do this?! Is it all some weird fantasy they invent in their heads then when on home turf the reality is they aren't that interested? My friend is so hurt, he's almost 50 it's not as if he's some silly lad.

Is there a real reason why some men (and women) do this? I asked dh and he doesn't have any answers Envy

Married.

Barbaro · 25/08/2017 16:02

Yeah he's likely to be married.

dogfish1 · 25/08/2017 16:04

There is no single reason for this or any other form of bad behaviour. Could be a fantasy, he may have other options, be married, deluded, a time waster, serial flirt or all of the above. Whatever the answer, he is not that keen and not a great catch either if after 4 months skyping he is talking crap about going with the flow. Sadly your friend is going to have to move on. Am a bloke BTW.

What dogfish said.

I thought he might still be married, though apparently his divorce is almost complete and he was going home to sign documents because the house was being sold.

If he is still married it wouldn't be hard to find out as they know many of the same people. I'm so cross on behalf of my friend she's had such an awful time with relationships and her self esteem has reached an all time low.
