Siblings all married older people

Hello all!
Please excuse the badly worded title, my excuse is that I've just worked a nightshift. Okay, I'll get to the point...I am five years older than DH. His brother married a woman eight years his senior. DP's sister married a man 10 years older than her. Does anyone out in MN-land have a similar situation? Am I over-thinking something trivial? I mentioned my genius deduction to DP, his response was "Hmmmm" Should I just stop posting and get some sleep?

Erm so what?

DanielCraigsUnderpants · 23/08/2017 10:05

I'm not sure what the question is? People in your family fall in love with people who were born in different years.

Coffee or sleep I think

hippyhippyshake · 23/08/2017 10:07

Am not getting it. Also do you have a DP and a DH? This could be the reason you are not thinking clearly 🤣

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere · 23/08/2017 10:10

My brothers girlfriend is younger than him and my boyfriend is older than me.

Hope that's helpful op Grin

Yes, a good rest willl help clear out the cobwebs.

NurseButtercup · 23/08/2017 10:18

I find that a cup of chocolate Horlicks helps me to have a good restful sleep after working a night shift. Brew

Offred · 23/08/2017 10:19

I think you need to get some sleep BUT there was the exact same age difference between XH and I (same genders man 7 years older) and between XBF and I (same genders woman 1 year older) as between XH and XBF's parents.

XH has one sister who is decidedly single. XBF has 1 sister and 3 brothers. Eldest is married to a woman who is 1 year older, next brother is decidedly single, older sister is 1 year older than her husband.

I always thought it was a bit hmmm too.

DowntheTown · 23/08/2017 10:19

My mum a little older than my dad, me a little older than my dh, my sis-in-laws both older than their dhs (my bro and bro-in-law). All small amounts (year or less). My sister bucks the trend.

Had already vaguely noted this family trend, but it's just a random thing!

TheFaerieQueene · 23/08/2017 10:21

Well if you married in your 20's there are significantly more older adults than you, than same age/younger. Statistically it seems reasonable.

Trills · 23/08/2017 10:21

Your DH is one of three siblings.

Each of these three has to marry someone older, younger, or approximately the same age.

Your DH married you, so that's already one "older".

I really don't think that two more instances of "older" is unusual or worth thinking about in any way.

Offred · 23/08/2017 10:21

(I am now decidedly single Grin)

bloodymaria · 23/08/2017 10:22

Should I just stop posting and get some sleep?

Probably :)

Sistersofmercy101 · 23/08/2017 10:23

I think it's interesting OP, it often is the case that family dynamics influence partner choices in later life.
Quite a bit of family psychological papers published on this kind of 'trend' in families. Go get some sleep chuck :)

PaganGoddessBrigid · 23/08/2017 10:24

I think it's really interesting OP, are their own parents much older than would be normal? I mean, did their parents, particularly their mother, have them late in life?

The age your parents had you is linked to what you find attractive.

My own parents had me very young so older men have never been my thing. Any man older than 7 years older than me just seems parental. Can't help it.

PaganGoddessBrigid · 23/08/2017 10:29

Also, birth order can play a part in making the dynamic feel comfortable.

I am an older sister (although age gap was very narrow) and a few men I've clicked with instantly have an older sister who is a bit but not much older. I know that's not an unlikely scenario. It's not like saying, omg, men I've clicked with have all been a twin. But nevertheless, I have noticed it.

youlooklikeaclown · 23/08/2017 15:00

Hello again! I feel better for some sleep. Thanks to Hippyhippyshake who pointed out my error, I have a DH, dunno why I called him a DP. Thanks for all the replies, I'd gone to bed thinking I'd wake up to a dead thread and the wind whistling across the tundra.
I'm an only child, born when my parents were 30. DH was born when his parents were 20, his brother is 3 years younger, then fast forward several years as DH's sister was born when DH was 17. Thanks to all who replied esp Sisters, Pagan and Offred It was interesting to read about your family dynamics.
