Is it possible to change a court order?

Asking for my DP.. he has a DD who is early teens. He and his ex split up around 10 years ago and it went to court. He had a high income then and the court ruled he had to pay £xxxx (four figures...) a month towards house and home. Mortgage is now in her name only

Problem is, since then, he has been made redundant and is in a job earning a fraction of what he did then. He's worked out the maintenance payments are 88% of what he now earns. It's killing him. He totally wants to continue to contribute and has never missed a payment and does so willingly and he feels terrible needing/wanting to reduce the payments

I don't even know if it is possible to get it changed or taken back to court or if it's even worth trying down to the cost of solicitors etc

Anyone had any experience of this? From either side..

Is court order for spousal maintenance or child support only? If child support only it can be varied through cms.

However it's best to talk to ex w and see if any agreement can be reached.Mediation has to be attempted ahead of court so that is the first legal step.

Even if it's spousal maintenance he can certainly speak to a solicitor about returning to court to seek a variation due to significantly changed circumstances. As PP said though, he would be expected to go to mediation first.

Your post is vague about the original agreement though - spousal maintenance, informal or Consent Order?

If he only has 12% of his pay, how is he paying his own housing cost?
