We have lived in a great city for 20 plus years and brought dc up here
Lots of friends.
Since dc about to go uni
Feel unsettled and curious about new horizons
Seen house 3 hrs away
Kno no one but love the area
Anyone experience uprooting in 50 s and try whole new life despite living in a good place ???

I plan to do this. I'm looking forward to new adventures, but I can understand your hesitation if you love your hometown.

I spent most of my life working and living in the south of the UK. We had a big house, car, swimming pool, tennis court, wrought iron hedgehog shaped wellington boot removers and many close friends. When I was 59 I felt a strong urge to live elsewhere and we moved to Rivendell. I am now in my 387'tieth year and do not regret it one bit. I do not miss my friends much and there is no council tax here.

I am trying to do something similar. I am no longer happy where I am and feel it is stupid to stay on but also worry about leaving all I have ever known. Have lived here since tiny. What about work issues. I think a major issue is whether you are alone or with a partner. Looking to the future how would it be for whichever partner was left alone. A lot to think about.

Can you afford to rent a place up there for a year or so? Maybe rent out your current home to fund it? That way you can find out whether the grass really is greener.

As any fule kno the other grass is always greener.

Slightly different circumstances but I did uproot at 41 and moved to a lovely old market town. I rented for a couple of years to make sure it was right for me and my dd and also I didn't want to buy without being sure that location of the property was right etc

Sleepingtiger- no council tax in Rivendell? I would suggest that the constant fear of invading evil surrounding and permeating your idyllic life would be a drawback - though having lived in the south of England you already would be used to this perhaps
