Seeing a solicitor before breaking up

I've name changed.

I see this recommended before people tell their partner they want to split. In real life I have been told this too.

How do you find a decent solicitor? I don't want to divulge anything to friends yet so can't ask around

What type of solicitor should I look for?

What information should I take?

I'm trying to mend the marriage with counselling but a family member keeps telling me to do this. I feel like it is a step too far at the moment. I should at least try to mend this as the fallout and casualties will be huge.

Also, financially I am fucked. He is the breadwinner. My skills are obsolete. I think that is putting me off too.

Thank you. I may not be able to reply.

I think this may come under family law. Approach a solicitor that offers legal aid as some of them operate free of charge. This can give you initial advice and point you in the correct direction

I went to see a solicitor, but after I told my partner it was over. I did this because he disagreed with a few thing regarding certain assets.
You can get free consultations with some solicitors but I paid £100 for an hour consultation and then they put everything in writing for me.
Find a solicitor who does family law and ring round to see who can give you a free (or cheap) consultation.
