Going to put a sledgehammer in the bloody fish tank!!!!

About a year ago, H has without my agreement built a colossal bloody fish tank, it is enormous, about 6 foot across, massive, bloody ugly thing.
Has a huge pump thing which makes a constant loud irritating noise then there is the bubbling water.
It is filthy dirty, the water is green, loads of algae, no way am I cleaning the bloody thing I hate it.
He has put this in the conservatory in our house, where i usually spend loads of time. Had to look at the bloody thing while having my Xmas dinner.
There isn't space for it, it looks far too big and all the other furniture has been moved to places in room that are not really right to fit it in.
He wanted it at the time because he was having a fad on fish.
since then he has had a fad on cycling, 3 bikes in garage, not touched for months. Lasted fad running machine in study again bought without talking to me, another huge thing cluttering up my house that he'll be fed up of in few weeks.
I've been asking for months to get rid of fish tank as he's clearly not remotely interested in it or looking after it.
And it's driving me mad.
Ive asked him again today, please can we empty it out and I don't care what he does with the bloody thing as long as it's out of my house.
His answer is he's not sure he wants to get rid of it!!!!!!
It's my birthday this weekend, I'm not bothered about going anywhere, I just want to get rid of this bloody thing.
Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!
Am I going completely mad?

Give him till the week end to clean it or stick in on Gumtree. .
Neglecting to maintain their environment is awful. . .

LesisMiserable · 11/05/2017 18:40

The conservatory would explain the algae I think. If there is no fish in it get it gone!

Offred · 11/05/2017 18:50

If he can put these things in the house without discussion you can take them out of the house without discussion and sell whatever you can IMO.

Offred · 11/05/2017 18:52

Had he explained why he believes he can just make solo decisions about communal areas and family money?

GloriaV · 11/05/2017 19:03

You need to sell it as it is you who wants rid of it and if you leave it to him it will take forever.

Sell fish, empty tank. Sell tank. Buyer collects.
I wouldn't even ask him.

MycatsaPirate · 11/05/2017 19:11

Well putting it in the conservatory was stupid of him. It is bound to go green pretty instantly.

Agree with pp. Put it up for sale on gumtree, buyer collects.

We have a fish tank but it's quiet, it's not green and it's got lovely plants and fish in it which we both love watching.

we don't mention the extra cat I rehomed last year without discussing it with dp first

picklemepopcorn · 11/05/2017 19:20

Are there still fish? Hardy ones, presumably?!

cauliflowercheese14 · 11/05/2017 19:55

I hope there are no fish in it as that sounds very cruel. If not I'd just get rid of it without asking him. Same with the bikes.

DearMrDilkington · 11/05/2017 19:58

An aquarium shouldn't be put in an area with too much sunlight, too much light = algae bloom.

I'd love a 6ft aquarium, I'll take it off your hands.Grin

I totally understand where you're coming from. We recently got rid of a marine fish tank about the same size as you describe. Is his a marine? They need so much care and attention in order to prevent them ending up looking awful, not to mention the cost of supplements, electricity etc. We ended up letting it go because id just had a baby and couldn't cope with looking after the tank AND a newborn. Plus for financial reasons. We sold it using Facebook for £750 (including all the equipment, coral and fish).

Are there fish in the tank? If there is and your DH is not maintaining the tank properly that's very cruel... He should give it to somebody who will look after it. Its not a piece of furniture they're living creatures.
