Following on from the dp/dh thread, how often do you tell your children you love them?

... Because I think I virtually never say it

I show them a lot - we are very tactile, do lots of kisses and hugs and cuddles. But I never say "I love you" to them (and neither does dh, incidentally). I am confident that they are secure in our love for them, but ... does that make me unusual? I have to say the thought of saying "I love you" to them leaves me a little uncomfortable, don't know why.

I do too....& ds is always saying it to us.It's the first think he says to me in the morning...big snuggles & kisses & 'I love you soooooooooooo much Mama'

laudaud · 05/03/2007 12:40

I will never say it to my parents or siblings but my husband says it to his sister and mother all the time. It's often at the tip of my tongue but I know if it slipped out, they'd think I was gone mad. We show our love for each other and to be honest I think we're closer than my husbands family. Actions are more important than words in my opinion

As for DD (20 months) we tell her every day numerous times.

HuwEdwards · 05/03/2007 12:42

Every time I leave them at nursery/school and every night at bedtime.

mamma2kids · 05/03/2007 12:43

Aah floatinspace, thats so nice.

dejags · 05/03/2007 12:44

Several times a day.

My parents never told me they loved me as a child (not once).

Marina · 05/03/2007 12:44

A lot. And we say it unconditionally. I know I was loved as a child but from my mother especially expressions of love were attached to "so this is why you can't have X/do Y, it is for your own good"

expatinscotland · 05/03/2007 12:46

Every day!

Hugs and cuddles and kisses, too.

I love DD1's hair. It's colour, it's length, the curls on the end, the way it smells. I often kiss the top of her head - whilst I can, as she's at my waist already!

princesscc · 05/03/2007 12:56

Far too many times according to my 11 yr dd! Can't help it - and I love a squidge whenever I can get one!

OrmIrian · 05/03/2007 13:04

All the time. Often just after we've had a disagreement .

Several times a day - bed time, leaving at school/nursery, plus just when we are cuddling - I think it's lovely.

swifterella · 05/03/2007 13:19

all the time, he is 18 mnths and says mum moo back which i think is i love you. i want to squeeze him sometimes i love him that much. ableit today when he has been a horror!

oxocube · 05/03/2007 13:25

Too often for ds1's liking (he's almost 12 and at that horribly embarrassed by everything stage!!)

I say it loads because although I always felt loved as a child, I can't remember ever being told and I desperately wanted to be told, just to be sure

Piffle · 05/03/2007 13:26

all the time

pooka · 05/03/2007 13:27

All the time, along with hugs and kisses.
DD, when I say "I love you" sometimes says "I like you too". Not quite the response I was hoping for!

several times a day to both dd (5 months) and ds (12 years). i also dont recall hearing it from my parents as a child and think it is SO important

Marina · 05/03/2007 13:34

littlelapin, my ds is nearly eight and still a regular smoochmeister, so you should have plenty more hugs and kisses yet to come

All the time - we are always saying "Guess what? .....I love you sooooooo much to bits!"

Ds says it to me lots too now. He's 6.

McDreamy · 05/03/2007 14:20

All the time!!!

mumto3girls · 05/03/2007 14:27

Every day often, in both words and hugs etc to my girls aged 14, 12 and nearly 2.

yeahinaminute · 05/03/2007 14:32

CONSTANTLY !!!

At bedtime DD say's " Love you mama" - I say "love you too" - to which she replies " love you three" - this goes on ad infinitum til I say " I love you all the world and sixpence" - then she say's " plus one"

Maybe she's just delaying sleep time ??? !!!!
