After numerous ups and downs these past couple of weeks, some serious, some not so serious, it has set me wondering what others thought their lives would be like and how that compares with reality of being with the same man you fell madly in love with moons ago?

Well it's our 10th wedding anniversary this weekend!

Although tbh I can't really think of anything deep in answer to your question! Except to say we've had ups and owns and lots of in-between times, we've been through a lot together, both embarked on our careers, travelled for a yr together, had 2 dcs, survived serious illness (me) and bereavement, and through it all we've stayed best friends and lovers and probably mellowed a bit and a bit more sure of who we are and who we want to be.

We are going to a 4 star hotel tomorrow night and going to guzzle champagne and toast the next 10 yrs!

We're coming up to 15 yrs in May, and I really can't believe it is that long. I couldn't imagine being without him then, and now really can't imagine it. If anything, the years have shown me I made the right choice. As he has been wonderful through some really rough times, including a major operation for me which has made us give up some of our more sporty pasttimes, and the stillbirth of our 2nd child. But he is wonderful to our two DC and really don't want to go through life without him.

That and this year he's promised me diamonds my 10yr anniversary ring was stolen, so is going to get me a new one

Thanks for your posts

We got together whilst I was still at school though dh was in work as he is 4 yrs older than me. We have been together over 25 yrs and that is really hard to get my head around! Inevitably in that time we have been through bereavements, births, siblings' weddings (and siblings' divorce and relationship traumas). House moves. Job changes. Now-adult dcs.

Often dh (a workaholic)wants to spend the whole evening on his restoration project in the garage, which unfortunately is where he spends a lot of his time, even over Christmas he was there, tinkering away to his heart's content! I get disappointed that spare time isn't very often spent with me/on family things. I kind of hoped by the time we had got to our 40s that we could have the freedom/finance/opportunity for relaxing together and going out in ways we didn't when early on in relationship because of financial/work constraints.

We work together in our business, though not always alongside each other, it depends on the work needing to be done. In fact, the working day is ill-defined as we also live on site, so constant on-call, really.

In my rose tinted moments I think we could be cuddled up on the sofa watching a film, or going for a walk.. but those times are rare, and I suppose I feel a bit cheated that we don't spend fun time together more. And I do try, honestly

I moved in with (now ex)P 10 years ago and I had all romantic visions of us being successful and generally sorted in every way. It couldn't have gone more tits-up than it did.

Congrats to everyone that stayed the course

hm........we had our ups and down over teh years, and both have done things we regretted and both had times where we felt it would be easier to split up, but having a child (or 3 by now) and being married, we always decided to work on it and now we are just glad that we did that and it was all worth it
We know eachother so well, and yeah, we also know how to wind eachothers up, lol...we tend to have it out as and when but don't hold a grudge, and we have both always said, that we couldn't cope with long term sulking, not talking for days and childish stuff like that....
when we got married we always said it's forever, and I know you never know, but so far both of us still feel that it will be forever...!
The way we see it is, that things only can get better
Secually we go thorugh phases...o.k. I go thorugh phases...dh would pretty much like it every day, lol, but he is accepting of me not being up for it and I am being accepting of his masturbation...lol...but when we do have sex it is very fulfilling.
We don't have the most romantic relationship, but, well, we know where we stand and we know we can trust eachother.

3LoveHeartsAndNoMore · 11/02/2007 00:28

oh, basically I think my relationship is actually better then I expected to be after like 11 years of marriage/12 years together,lol...
