Hi,

Just wondering has anyone made the decision to walk out on family life and then regretted there actions further on down the line?

I have posted a thread yesterday about my ex walking out on us! I'm confused about it all and don't want him back!.. But would love for him to realise what we had was good and regret it further down the line for some closure I suppose!..

Men do it every day as we know, it's despicable either way which is why decent people just don't even if we want to

Everyone's circumstances are different. For example, I've come across women who were so terrified of their abusive partners and so unable to think clearly or long term that they have left their children in the family home with the abuser while they themselves left. They went into survival mode and simply couldn't shoulder the responsibility for their children. I can't judge them for that; much as I feel for their children. They were deeply damaged women. Likewise, people can suffer from MH issues that leave them in so much pain they just up and go.

However, those caveats and similar aside, those who walk out of their families without making an effort to maintain the relationship even if they no longer share a home, will probably suffer from a lack of meaningful relationships throughout their lives. It stands to reason that if you can do this and justify it to yourself in one situation, you will do it any time your needs conflict with your responsibilities to others. That doesn't generally translate into life-long wonderful relationships with others.

As for regret? I don't know. Many people who justify their actions are incapable of regret because they really can't see what they've done wrong. Sad, lonely and maybe even bitter are more likely outcomes than regret I'd say, but sometimes people can and do learn I suppose.

In those situations I can understand! But in a good relationship with one bad patch and they just walk out makes me sick! (Like my ex!) I dunno if he's regretting things atm as he keeps txting and turning up sent me a picture of him and my son in the middle of the night last night!.. But hey ho his loss we was a great lil family!.. Which he just upped and left and broke all our hearts! Don't think I could take that back in fear he would do it all again!..

With you there. It's the same for us. Don't know if I will ever understand it. Although I was thinking about things and she did say to me a few times she thought she missed out on stuff by marring so young. Maybe that's the reason? I dont know. Can't believe she has put her new life before the kids.
