blackouts during sex

Often, in the morning, I will remember the build up to sex, and have a vague awareness I must have done it, and even the clean up after.

I can't remember the sex. At all.

I remember last night, telling him it must have been decent, cause I had teeth marks in my own arm where I'd bitten it, looking in the shower after.

But as soon as it's finished, more or less, I have no clue what I've done.

I'm not upset about it. A bit pissed off, I suppose. It happens more often if I've been drinking, but I can tell you in detail all the before and after. It's only the sex I can't remember, and it can happen when I'm sober.

Am I weird? Is there a science explanation?

Sorry to tell you but this sounds so similar to my temporal lobe epilepsy. I also black out (even though I am conscious and seemingly there in the moment) during sex and other times of high emotion. Labour etc. Your doctor may not understand tbh, I saw many who didn't but please push for a neurology referral.

If you would like some information on seizures that do not cause you to lose consciousness, the epilepsy society have a good list. Mine are simple partial and I don't lost consciousness as the whole brain is not affected. The Epilespy Society even have videos on how it may feel to experience the seizure too. Simple partials aren't awful btw, they can sometimes feel very euphoric. Good luck.

@sexamnesiac i am having the same issue. I can be stone cold sober and we can have sex and i won't remember what we have done. i will get flash backs the next day...just like you do when you get black out drunk...i am in a safe space with him, he isn't drugging me, he isn't hurting me...its just strange. I have never had this happen with anyone else.. maybe because i never felt safe with any other person I have been with? i don't know. but i am glad i found someone else with this issue cuz I was feeling crazy

Can't say for sure but I have suffered amnesia and dissociation a fair bit which is due to other reasons I wont go into however what you're describing is familiar.

Amensia comes and goes but I lose entire sections of my day or an activity. For example, I can go somewhere but leave and arrive in the same moment without any memory of the journey. Some days I have no recollection of the day at all and it's like, that day was fast but I can't recall things.

Dissociation is usually something traumatic or stressful and I completely zone out, but I am aware and it's not nice.

I have experienced what I believe to be amnesia during sex, usually when it's intense but for me it was like, I'm there then x amount of time has passed...woah I'm having sex still, then I'll go and come back again however many times. I have had some occasions where afterwards I've totally forgotten the entire thing but I know it happened.

I do sometimes wonder if I'm actually having seizures and neuros have it wrong but... that's what I've experienced anyway.

Biting your own arm that hard to show teeth marks isn't that common.
What does he say happens.
Are you sure he's not involved in this?

It's only ever happened with him, so big clue there then..
