Online divorce

I'm having a torrid time with my ex and think I really need to divorce him to help him get the message that we are over. Initially we said we'd wait two years as we'd heard it's easier but for many reasons I think I need to do it now. But, I am so skint! Does anybody have experience of using an online solicitors and / or managing it themselves? Am worried about the unreasonable behaviour bit and what to say. And we have no formal agreements in place with childcare or finances (we have no assets to share and debts are in my name Angry ). Any advice very gratefully received. Thanks

Do it yourself costs 410. No need to sort finances or children out to get divorce started that is something separate. Google it re what is ok for unreasonable behaviour and/or look at divorce thread on here. Basically you need 5-6 examples of unreasonable behaviour dated in 6 months before you separated. Things like arguments, by socialising together, date he left marital home etc. You are the petitioner he is the defendant. You keep it factual and include dates if you can.

Does anybody know why the figure bandied around is £410 for a online govt divorce but in their website it says you have to pay £550? Has anybody used one of the online divorcee management companies? Just wondered if it's worth paying them £160 or so additional to take away some of the hassle.

Thanks

Getting divorced without sorting finances and children is a bad idea. A really, really fucking bad idea.

If the divorce is straight forward and you ate both agreed on things happy days. A DIY divorce may be ideal.

Personally I used a local fix price divorce solicitor. As for us we were sorting it out amicably and she was willing to admit the adultery. I am a working single parent. I don't have a lot of free time but comfortable financialy. So for me this saved loads of time stress and effort. A bit lazy I know but my free time is so small. The divorce should be complete in the next couple of weeks. It cost about 1500 all in, Inc the court fees.

it was £410, it went up to £550 on March 21st, which is why everyone who has already been through it is saying £410.

We did it ourselves with no solicitor involved to avoid anything other than the court fee, found online and the actual divorce unit really helpful with advice on how to fill the forms in etc.
We were told we could get the decree nisi agreed prior to any agreement about children/finance, but it was a BAD idea to go ahead and apply for the absolute until the financial agreements were in place. As it was everything was sorted at the same time, but in your case you can get the ball rolling just do not let the absolute go through before the consent order or whatever it is you are doing to agree childcare/finances.
