Hubby and I had sex for the first time after giving birth 9 weeks ago(first baby, 9lb 1, vaginal delivery with episiotomy and forceps) and it started off painful, gradually became uncomfortable, eventually ok then almost pleasant by the end... how long can i expect it to be like this?? when (if ever) does it get to be not uncomfortable?? i was the one really keen to get back in the saddle - so to speak! - but after that i'm happy to wait a while!!

It will be ok next time I think the first is the worst

50% of couples take a year to return to normal, so you're not doing badly

Perhaps next time you should use some lubrication? I remember the first time after dd (epesiotomy, suction & forceps!) it was quite unconfortable for a while, but it was the way I was stitced. sex was uncomfortable when not using lubriction & using condoms as the condom would rub my scar.

Are you breastfeeding? If so some extra lubrication might help?

I meant to say - breast feeding can reduce the amouny of lubricant produced, so some K-Y gel might help.

a year??!! wow it's a wonder couples manage to have a second or third child..

we did use lube and condom so I thought that would have been enough... but I guess we could always use more!

I am breastfeeding but I'm not dryer than I was pre-bub... if anything there's actually more, just not as, er, pleasant as it used to be!

thanks for advice!
