GP - I think you are being emotionally abused
Person - No, I don't think so. I'm only feeling a bit down

Week 2
GP - I think you are being emotionally abused
Person - No, I don't think so. I've been on DA courses. I'm sure I would realise

Week 3
GP - I think you are being emotionally abused
Person - No, I don't think so. I don't have any confidence and am quite dependant

Person - I've been reading about emotional abuse. It explains so much

I think the GP in this scenario doesn't seem to understand the complexities involved in being in an abusive relationship. It's never as simple as telling someone they're in one. And resolving the situation is never as simple as someone implying that "I've done a bit of reading so I understand/can handle it now".

The first step in recovering from abuse is to recognise it, the second to admit it.

It's very complex and thank god the gp had the insight to keep stating what they saw. Now there's a victim who has recognised something isn't right, maybe they'll accept help.
