Teddy bear bauble sporting a pink rompersuit with moons and stars on, and a santa hat on for our dd, with glitter. And a bar of soap for us.

On the good side, a new flat screen tv, HD ready from PIL!! And a calendar for me, my MIL reads my mind sometimes I swear...

Any other 'interesting', 'unusual', 'weird' gifts to make us giggle? Or great gifts?

2 books some incence burner type things & a thorntons voucher!

divastrop · 25/12/2006 19:51

i got white gold /diamond earrings from dp

the kids pressies were all pretty good, apart from an age 9-10 top for ds1(who is in age 12-13 clothes)and age 8-9 top+skirt for dd1(who is in age 10-11 clothes)from my sister.my 2 eldest have always been tall for their ages(8+9) and always been in bigger size clothes since the age of 3 months.so...why??

oh,and i got ds2 a marble run thinking it was easy to assemble and i ended up throwing it in the front room after 2 hours of cursing

crunchie · 25/12/2006 20:09

dh did good as always, some more emma bridgewater china, coffee cups and a tea canister (not everyones top pressie, but really thoughtful to me). He also gave me George Michael 25 DVD and CD and some smellies.

MIL for a change bought 3 things - this is the woman who gave me an avocado slicer one year! A kitchen bin (Is she making a point) some bling (nice tennis bracelet) and a fake fur jkt. All not bad.

However DH managed a book that his parents also gave him 3 years ago (the same book my parents gave him that year too! )
I gave hime clothes that will go back, CD's and books which were OK.

Kids got nothing but good stuff this year

No knicker elastic in our house

PinkTinsel · 26/12/2006 11:12

we opened pil's presents last night.......

clothes for the kids, a jacket dd doesn't need and one of those all in ones for ds that won't fit til summer.... and loony mil cut the tags off so they can't be returned even though she gave me the receipts . they gave me a hideous glittery handbag that was put straight into dd's toybox and a shopping bag.....

my mom gave me a size 16 top from the charity shop.... i'm a 10/12!

and i bought myself a sample size of dr. houschka mosturiser and toner from dp that he couldn't even be bothered wrapping for me

I got a fantastic digital camera - but must confess to telling my family what I wanted. They all clubbed together to get me a really good one. Can't wait to play with it!

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 26/12/2006 12:03

DH got me a gorgeous diamond eternity ring..can't wait till ds2b is born in 5 weeks time so I can wear it with pride along with my wedding and engagement rings(sausage fingers..!)

DD (19 months) got me a pink ipod nano ..with her own money and chosen herself .

However not to sound ungrateful..I did get a gift that I wish the sender had saved her money and given to charity............I got a comb, a bead necklace (that my dd is proud of ) and matching hairclips and a nail file..(I have acrylic nails)........
Sorry but they are hideous...lime green in colour (all items) and look like what my local chemist sell. .
BTW I bought her a devine dress ring from jon richmond at debenhams...wanted to keep it myself it was so lovely..............

Earlybird · 26/12/2006 12:10

Shhh - I've gotten too many of those hideous presents over the years. So, I've taken to telling people what I'd like (digital camera this year). Saves people the angst of shopping for me, stops them wasting their money on something I won't use/wear, and ensures that I get something I want/need/will use. Good solution all around.

SHHHHsantahasbeen · 26/12/2006 12:29

eb good advice BUT this is not a close friend and tbh over the years has started to feel obliged to buy for us (the group) and also for dd iykwim.
I haven;t the heart to say that to her or even to suggest to just buy for dd iykwim...

Suppose at least the charity shop will benefit..

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2006 21:27

I got a fluffy pink dressing gown from mamma
fluffy pink slippers with glitter from mamma
3 gorgeous smelly toiletry sets - one from mamma, one from cousin and one from aunt
a bottle of baileys from aunt
a really cute guinea pig from mamma
Jennifer Lopez 'Glow' eau de toilette from mamma
£20 high street gift vouchers from uncle and aunt
a bath pillow from mamma
and possibly more but I cannae remember!

madamez · 27/12/2006 23:10

NEarly all nice presents. My mum has a knack of buying DS things that are fab to him but drive me batshit. This year it was a toy electronic keyboard that is REALLY LOUD and plays 100s of tunes, drum patterns, etc.
Mind you, I bought him a toy stroller and babydoll because he loves pushing the strollers at playgroup, and my father was a bit appalled. Though he may just have been worried about his skirting boards.

PrincessPeaHead · 27/12/2006 23:20

my MIL got me a strange plastic contraption which holds books upright on a sort of stand. The packaging shows a girl using it on a beach, lying in bed, sitting on the sofa with it precariously balanced on one arm - "look, I can read with no hands! Until I have to turn the page, of course"

Well, books are SO heavy, you know

threelittlegifts · 27/12/2006 23:37

FIL bought my mum ( we all spend xmas together) a vase- maybe plastic, maybe glass- with fake water in it, and fake flowers....and some rose room spray to spray on them from time to time. He actually said "You've got flowers forever, and the smell too!"

DH and I later posl at it

singsalot · 27/12/2006 23:39

I did get lots of lovely presents but

white cashmere slipper socks? I asked dh if I wore them would he ensure that I never put my feet on the floor, I know I sound a bit ungrateful, but they are a bit useless, make me smile though ....

Katy44 · 28/12/2006 08:48

I got lots of lovely presents from PILs but one was a china(??) old fashioned lady with a hat but without a head. Instead of a head or neck she has lots of hooks - you hang your jewellery on them! It's really freaky, and not my taste in the slightest!
Also got - not from PILs - some earrings. I don't have pierced ears! Any ideas what to do with them as most places don't let you return them and I don't think anyone in my family would want them?
