Has anyone's DH ever taken Viagra?

I am regular Mumsnet, and long term poster.
Dh has been having some 'issues' for a while now and I have mentioned that we might think about getting some Viagra. I think he would be too embarrassed to go to a GP so might possibly order of the Internet. Has anyone done this? what are the risks and did it help?
Thanks in advance.

DH has MS and erectile dysfunction is a very common symptom; we struggled with it for years and Viagra cured it instantly. It can certainly be a long-term solution, but I really really would advise getting them only under medical supervision.

Now, if they could just invent something to counteract the sexually-suppressant effects of a 4yo, 5yo, two cats, two careers, a live-in nanny and her husband, a randomly appearing Czech cleaner, the aging process and general exhaustion, the Viagra would be really useful.

yes dh has had it. but not for the uses you lot are on about. he was given it in hospital last year.

36 hours listmaker - I'm torn between thinking you're very lucky and feeling very sorry for you!

I think diabetes is one of the other things they check for so it may be worth dragging him to the doc quickchange, even if it is you who has to do the talking. Do you think you could persuade him to go?

MerryMellowmas · 12/12/2006 13:37

My dh has been telling me about these ones Listmaker. You would think that would be a bit frustrating.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 12/12/2006 14:12

Whatever you do please don't order Viagara (or any other drug for that matter) from the internet. It may well be faked stock (there are many dodgy non UK based pharmacies online) besides which it should not be taken without medical supervision.

Why is he embarrassed to see his GP?. If you had a medical issue you would attend the GP so why can't he?. Tell him that they have seen it all before and he should not be afraid to go along and have a chat with his GP. Why not attend the GPs surgery as a couple?. Embarrassment is your biggest enemy here.

I don't think the Cialis makes you permanently horny for 36 hours or anything!!! It's just that if you do get in the mood it works. It doesn't turn you on if you're not turned on anyway iyswim?!

Not really sure how it works but my dp assured me that he had to fancy me and be aroused for it to work so no unwanted erections or pouncing on me all the time!

expatinscotland · 12/12/2006 14:25

I had a lover who didn't have erectile issues, he just took it to enhance it all.

It worked .

morningpaper · 12/12/2006 15:57

All it does is basically increase blood supply to the penis

It doesn't change your sex drive or anything

So by "it works for 36 hours" it means that if the person is sexually aroused then he should have a successful sexual response i.e. an erection sufficient for penetrative sex if required

It doesn't mean he has an erection for 36 hours or is aroused for 36 hours, just that for about 36 hours he should have a successful sexual response when aroused

foxinsocks · 12/12/2006 16:50

oh I know, was just making a light-hearted comment, as you do

MerryMellowmas · 12/12/2006 16:52

Thats good! Can you imagine a erection for 36 hours. How sore

foxinsocks · 12/12/2006 16:55

does make me feel sorry for all those men who had to manage before Viagra was invented

morningpaper · 12/12/2006 20:11

Viagra etc. doesn't work in all cases

there are zillions of other options - vaccuum pumps (where the vaccuum forces blood into the penis and then you basically "trap" it with a cock ring type thing), injections directly into the penis - even a permanent surgical implant which literally enables you to bend your penis into an upright position.

Something like 50% of insulin-dependent diabetics are impotent and lots of men who have had prostate surgery are totally impotent.

It's GRIM
