Vasectomy and balls!

DH is planning to have a vasectomy. Apparently he has to shave his testicles but how??? They're rather, how shall I put it, soft and squidgy, so the thought of a rasor makes us both wince. Does anyone know if hair removal cream is okay to use? Also any other tips gratefully appreciated.

I used a razor on my dh - very delicate job and as you say it's virtually impossible to get a good job done given the undulating surface!

susanmt · 16/05/2004 22:40

!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dh had 2 small bits shaved for the incisions but it was done after the anaesthetic. Glad I didn't have to do THAT!

Excellent idea though - one of the best decisions we ever made- oh the releif!!!

DH suggests trying the question on a sex board as some men shave for amusement. However, in the miscellaneous section of a technical board he reads, a discussion on this topic recently suggests starting with a trim and a hot bath, using a moisturizing shave cream, and stretching the area as you shave. (You can bet he doesn't give me any trouble about reading mumsnet!)

Remember, he just has to shave a small area. When DH had his done, one of his friends told him that he shaved everything from below the waist to above the knee. You could try one of those new razors with the shaving balm block. At least then he could see what he's doing and get a bit of moisturising.
P.S - Get the frozen peas in for when the anesthetic wears off.

I didn't mean to insinuate anything by the small area comment!

mambo · 17/05/2004 10:25

cream is ok but when my dh had his he shaved. The night before he shaved and had worked himself up into a frenzy and the day of the op he got letter saying it was cancelled and he had to do it all again a few weeks later.

My dp has had the vasectomy and the reversal and on both times just shaved himself. Without being too gross, you need to pull the scrotum upward when shaving to make it a bit more taught. OR just use the beard trimmer on an electric shaver or a lady shave! All very safe and easy!

Any cream that's bikini line safe will be OK, and probably a bit less itchy.

bobs · 18/05/2004 23:36

Thanks fo all your comments. I just bought some cream for bikini areas but it say not to use on loose skin . I think we'll go with the trim, shower and moisturizing shave - wish us luck!!

It's weired that the hospital don't want to do it themselves, so it's done right, IYSWIM.

coppertop · 20/05/2004 22:36

Good luck Bobs - and especially Mr Bobs!

bobs · 23/05/2004 23:11

Thanks coppertop. We used a cream called Louis Marcel (£1.99 in Homebargains down from £4.19) - like Veet but supposed to be for more sensitive skin. We patch tested and it worked great.
So he went in on Sat and had it done - hardly felt a thing on one side, the other slightly more so. He's had a relaxing pampered w/e and apart from a slight tenderness and having to sleep eith a pillow between his legs he's okay - much better than we thought.
So from next week we have to get down to job of "doing it" 50 times before he's sperm free
Just thought I'd post this as info for any future DH vasectomies

From a trolls point of view, I had it done in the early 70s by my GP one afternoon. In and out in 25 mins (£1 per minute when i think of it) - no shaving necessary. Wore a panty pad in my keks for a day, was "on the nest" the following evening with my mistress and had no problems considering I was first in the office to have it done and 3 of the 5 got infections and all sorts of after effects.

Ha ha ... PMSL re. 50 times aswell Issymum! That means that it would be years and years and years before DH was 'sperm free' the rate we are going!!!!!

bobs · 08/06/2004 23:58

42 to go!!!!!!!!!!!

Pook · 09/06/2004 08:42

I am in awe!

susanmt · 09/06/2004 11:26

Just leave him to it. I'm sure most men would clock up 50 times in no time on their own!!

We were sperm free at 3 months and I had had a baby in the interim, so hadn't been very available!

bobs · 09/06/2004 22:47

Don't be Pook, he did 6 of them on his own!!!
