Worried about not having enough milk

Hello,

I'm 38 weeks today and being induced on Wednesday due to GD. I've heard few stories how GD may affect breastfeeding and am panicking now, because 1) my boobs haven't increased in size much 2) nothing has ever leaked from them 3) when I try to squeeze, nothing, literally nothing, not even a drop of colostrum comes out. Does it mean I won't have enough/not at all colostrum? Or will it be delayed?

Thanks!

No. I had the same. Nothing at all from the breast. I just needed more help to get started breastfeeding. Make sure you seek out help.
Good luck Grin

I didn't have anything before they were born but after by dd was born 6 wks early, I took her home from scbu with nearly 2l of frozen expressed milk!

Don't worry yet.

My boobs didn't grow until my milk came in.

PotteringAlong · 11/11/2015 18:05

The removal of the placenta triggers your milk. Don't worry if you haven't had any yet; it's no indication at all.

Same, not a drop before the birth and by day three it was leaking all over the place, happily breastfeeding now months later. Don't worry about it

No growth for me with DC1, no leaking etc. No probs coming in after a couple of days.

DC2, slight growth but no leaking. She bf until over 2 years.

Joysmum · 11/11/2015 18:45

No boobs for me either and took 4 days for my milk yo properly come in plus DD wasn't fussed about trying too hard to get any. Was so close to reverting to the bottle when it all came good until the little monster suddenly stopped feeding at 9.5 months for no reaso and nobody could get her back to it

Deal with anything that pops up as and when it does. Please try not to get to concerned (hard I know) as it may not happen. Flowers

It makes no difference. You will have plenty of milk! Breastfeeders come in all shapes and sizes. As long as you have a midwife worth her salt who facilitates skin to skin directly after birth, uninterrupted bonding time etc, you'll be fine. (Usually a good idea to be aware of these things yourself as well so you can push for them if you need to!) hope your induction goes well and good luck with your new baby!

bunny85 · 11/11/2015 22:47

Thank you all very much for good advices and reassurance! I know skin to skin is very important and have got it in my birth plan. Hope all goes well, less than a week left, yeek!!

I was induced at 38 weeks for GD. I am currently sat bresdt feeding my scrummy newborn. Milk came in on day 3. I'm sure you'll be ok. Good luck, hope your delivery goes well :)

I had gd and have never heard that. Fed ds until 6 months and stopped due to dh through choice! Good luck!

bunny85 · 11/11/2015 23:21

Rosieliveson1, thanks for sharing, may I ask what about your colostrum? Did it come straight away after birth?

Btw, I asked for the tread to be moved right away, but nothing happened yetConfused. Feeling a bit silly staying in the 'Relationship', sorry everyone!

How much you can express is not indication of your actual milk supply.

rosieliveson1 · 12/11/2015 01:37

Well, DS latched on in the delivery room. I have no idea if he got anything but seemed satisfied enough. There was definitely colostrum when he fed the next morning.
