What sort of therapy is right for this?

Hi

Not sure if this sits here but I thought I'd get some good advice...

DH would like to deal with his lack of self confidence, self esteem, not liking himself and feelings of negativity and guilt.

It stems in part from his upbringing, his DM has been emotionally manipulative and always put a lot of importance on what others thought of you and I think he feels he doesn't measure up. His dad has always been passive and dominated by his Mum. At the moment he feels very negatively towards his parents and family in general.

His sister has had counselling but I think he feels it hasn't been useful. I've had CBT for my anxiety issues which helped with positive thinking but not sure it's right for him.

Any suggestions into what might be helpful or what to look for in a therapist/counsellor?

I'm having psychodynamic therapy, after decades of other types to try to keep me ticking over. It's a long and horrible slog but it's meant to help with issues rooted in the past.
