Not sure where the dating thread has gone.

I have been online dating for a while, at the start I was just doing it for a bit of fun and company, have been on a few dates and had a few one nighters ( which was all I wanted ), there has been one guy which I have been in contact with for a couple of months, we message each other non stop and I feel we know quite a bit about each other, due to distance and him not being able to drive we have not yet met but tomorrow we have arranged to meet half way ( he's travelling by train and me by car ) and we have planned to spend the day together. I am very nervous and so is he but we are also very excited. I really don't want to mess things up as I really like him ( obviously this could change when we meet ), I have a habit of jumping into bed with people which is why I have decided to meet him in the city centre so we can spend some time together without jumping straight into bed Grin.

So what can we do to keep busy ( I love shopping but I'm sure most men find it boring )?

What shall I wear?

What if we don't get on? What if he's nothing like I think he will be? How can I make an excuse and leave? ( really hoping there will be no need ).

How can I handle my nerves without alcohol ( I'm driving )?

Omg, I am petrified Grin

Prepare a list of activities to suggest so that it's not awkward. Any local attractions? Touristy things? Museums? Cinema? Take a very long lunch. Go for a walk after?

Wear something comfortable if you don't know what you're doing yet. Jeans and nice top? Dress, tights and boots? Casual but like you've put in a little effort. Make your hair/make up nice.

If you don't get on, don't make any excuses, just say "right, I better make my way home, do you want a lift to station?" Short, sweet, no excuses.

If he's not like what you thought, just cut the date shorter, if you've not set an exact leaving time it's no issue.

And don't worry about no alcohol, only the first few minutes will be awkward!

Good luck!

Thank you.
Luckily the place we are meeting I know quite well but he has never been, there are museums, parks and nice places to eat. He has been looking online for ideas, we seem to like the same things which is a bonus. I really hope he is how I expect him to be, he comes across as being really easy going and a gentleman but I know from previous online dates that people are not always how you think they will be so I'm treading carefully.

All went really really well, I was so nervous and worried that he would be totally different then I expected, we had been messaging each other every day for the past couple of months so I had built up a picture of what he would be like, he wasn't exactly how I thought he would be, if anything he was much better than I imagined, he's a gentleman ( kept asking me if I was ok, opened doors for me and let me make choices about what to do/where to go ). I felt a connection with him straight away and I'm pretty sure he feels the same, he hasn't stopped messaging me since our day together. We are meeting in again next weekend and I can't wait.

Glad it went well Wink

So glad it went well never... The dating thread is still around but not as active as it was in the summer.

Is this Mr 2hrs away? Did you fancy him then? If you live so far apart and are meeting in a conveniently located city centre, how do you see things progressing in the mid to long term?

Nevergoingtolearn · 11/10/2015 20:44

Yes, it was Mr 2 hours away, really he's about 1 hour and 40 minutes away. We got on really well, I kind of geared myself up to be disappointed ( after previous dates ) but this was very different. At the moment we are talking about seeing each other every weekend, if things work out I will eventually introduce him to my dc's and he can stay over at the weekends ( we shall see how things go ), I really fancy him and I'm pretty sure he feels the same about me. He has no ties ( no kids and he is looking for a new job ). I think at the moment the distance thing is a good thing, stops me diving in head first as I can only see him once a week until I'm ready to introduce him to my family.

We did end up going back to his yesterday which wasn't planned at all Blush.

Has he contacted you since? I think it's a bit soon to be thinking about sleep overs, you've only had one date

Nevergoingtolearn · 11/10/2015 22:01

Yes, we have talked a lot since yesterday. I am going to see him next weekend just for the day and go from there.
