Sober October anyone?

Ok - had a half hearted attempt at Dry SEptember with limited success.

Confident I can do Sober October. I feel like being clean, serene, and giving my body a lovely healthy detox.

Anyone else?

Starting tomorrow, might have a drink tonight, not sure yet.

hi fontella :)

IrishDad .... heh yeah. all feels a bit middle aged doesn't it! :)

CheesyNachos · 10/10/2015 20:46

I agree IrishDad about how even a little bit of alcohol affects you. (Mind you, I rarely had a little bit... it was usually alot!). I was up bright and early this morning. Played a board game with DS. Went to a gym class. Made pumpkin and chocolate muffins. All by 10.30!

Tucked up in bed now. It is howling wind outside so feel very cosy.

How is everybody else doing?

[waves] to fontella as a fellow DRY thread buddy. :)

day 12 nearly over. it's been surprisingly easy overall ...

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/10/2015 22:10

Well done Meerka, I'm enjoying the sparkly clear head in the mornings.

Another here living the rock and roll lifestyle. I usually would have wine at the weekends but stuck to tea and sparkling water this weekend.

Meerka · 15/10/2015 08:59

Nearly half way through! How are people doing?

CheesyNachos · 15/10/2015 09:51

Doing good here. :) Am going to the gym every day. Loving eearly nights and a good sleep.

:)

Morning all!

Day 24 for me and feeling pretty good!

I am definitely in 'no booze' mode at the moment - but I try not to get too complacent as I have been here several times before.

But right now, there is absolutely no desire to drink. I'm alone a lot of the time (son at uni, daughter cabin crew so always off on trips) so I tend not to do big supermarket shops but to nip to the local shops several times a week for bits and bobs. This would always be a cue to grab a bottle or two - as the booze is right by the tills in one shop I go to, but at the moment it doesn't even enter my head.

Next Monday it will be four weeks without a drink and I'm planning to start a weight loss/healthy eating regime then. Mistake I've made in the past is trying to do everything at once and always failing, so what I've done this time is four weeks booze free but eating more or less what I want, sweets if they take my fancy etc. and now the next stage is to do something about my diet. I'm not in bad shape and pretty active/cycle/yoga but a little overweight - belly mainly, the curse of the drinker.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/10/2015 10:49

Gah not perfect here. Had half a bottle of wine last night. First two weeks were absolutely fine for me, so not sure what happened there and why I caved. Hopefully that will be my only alcohol consumed this month.

Well done everybody else, you're doing great.

new day today .... offers linked hands to help her back onto the wagon

It's not easy! It's also not the end of the world. Keep on keeping on :)

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/10/2015 20:00

Thanks Meerka. Onwards and upwards. Bought a few bottles 0% beer which I'm growing actually quite fond of.

Only just found this thread.

And FWIW (not a lot), Drew is utterly wrong - stopping for a month absolutely does bring benefits. this sums it up.

For me, taking a month out reset my drinking habits and it really feels it has been effortless not to drink at all on weeknights. I'm still losing weight too, slow but steady.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/10/2015 09:37

How's everyone doing?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/10/2015 09:53

Ok thanks OnceAMeer. Found the first two weeks s lot easier than nkw though. How are you doing?

Fontella · 20/10/2015 12:08

I'm still here and going strong. it's been four weeks and one day since I last had a drink and I can already feel I've lost a bit of weight round the waistband, sleeping better, feeling better generally, plus my bank statement hasn't got lots of little card transactions for the local Off License.

Hang in there everyone. It's worth it.

OnceAMeerNotAlwaysAMeer · 20/10/2015 14:59

nkw?

i found the first two weeks easy (actually 3 as I hadn't had anything the last week of Sept). It's harder now, particularly as we have building work on, a relative is in her final illness and various other stressors.

But Im taking it day by day and not drinking!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/10/2015 17:57

Nkw = now!

Well done Fontella, and OnceAMeer I could do with a little bit off my waist I must admit.

Keep going.

nearly there ... 4 more nights! Visiting family who do enjoy a drink in the next days though, mainly to say goodbye to a lovely aunt who's v ill, so it'll be tough. If I fall at the last hurdle, it won't be the end of the world, right? Just get up and add 4 more days in November

How's everyone doing, sticking to the bitter end? :)
