Am in Norfolk on a weekend for me . For various reasons friends unavailable and teenaged sons would hate it . so have checked in and hidden in caravan last night. At zoo alone watching all the families have a great time . Booked on a extra tour with a family who looked at me puzzled .I am a modern 40 yr old who likes animals .Help me survive have got dvd for tonight and might brave entertainment. Then off to norwick or broads boat trip Then lakeside and home Monday. Help me survive with your support .

You can have my moral support and hand-holding - I'm 57 and going to a festival alone tonight to see my favourite band.

If you're single and cba chasing other people to be 'friends', you get to do things alone. Sometimes that's uncomfortable, but mostly its just fun!

Norfolk's lovely! Lucky you.

If you fancy seeing the Broads from a lower angle, you can hire kayaks from the back of the tourist info place in Wroxham (they run accompanied paddles, as well as just hiring). Then shop in Roy's (main shop for fun, food court opposite if you decide against going out).

I had to go and see Kate Bush on my own in London because I could only get one ticket. For some reason, I was so scared to go to London by myself.... but I was so passionate about seeing KB that I would have traveled to the moon.

Met loads of people and ended up having a ball by myself with loads of other fans. Had I gone with a half-hearted friend, the experience would have been diminished.

Sometimes, doing things on your own opens new doors.

This sounds fab to me. I went to Norfolk in my own for a week a few years ago. Banham zoo, the Broads, seals, Holkham Hall and beach. Ate out on my own too. It was wonderful. I really like having time on my own and not having anyone else to worry about.

cozietoesie · 19/09/2015 14:23

Sounds great. It would never occur to me not to go somewhere by myself if I wanted to see something by myself or be alone with some experiences.

If anyone looks puzzledly at you, the odds are they wish they were in your place. Just grin at them. Grin

Have a fine time. Smile

I would LOVE to do something alone. I really fancy one day just jetting off to a small med island and just spending the week reading and sitting by the pool. Alone. No phone, no distubances

RedMapleLeaf · 19/09/2015 15:04

I think you need a hand patting you on the back rather than holding your hand. You're doing great.

ThisIsStillFolkGirl · 19/09/2015 15:16

mrstwee going to a festival alone is one of my favourite things to do!

Eat/drink/sit/read/watch/dance where and when I want. Perfect. Sometimes strangers feel the need to rescue me from myself/my solitude.

But I don't need it. It's a real tonic for the soul.

ThisIsStillFolkGirl · 19/09/2015 15:19

notmrscookie you are very lucky. What beautiful early autumn weather you have for it too.

I'm quite envious. I agree, you need a pat on the back not a hamdholding!

I actually think that going on a weekend just for you is working on your self-confidence!

Well done you. Smile

Seriously, those people weren't giving you funny looks. People doing things on their own is completely normal. They may well have been looking at you for all sorts of reasons, and probably do all the time, you were just more aware of it yesterday.

It might feel huge to you, but really, it isn't. Don't let worrying what other people will think get in your way.

Hope you have fun today!
