So, supposedly he's a 'close-protection-officer' for The Royal Family, just about to retire & move into 'firearms'.......& he lives in Norfolk.

Long commute Hmm

Wadda you reckon?

OP posts:
SanityClause · 05/09/2015 10:26

Sandringham is in Norfolk.

Palomb · 05/09/2015 10:27

Founds fishy to me too!

ProfYaffle · 05/09/2015 10:27

Sandringham's in Norfolk, friend of mine bumped into Prince Philip on the beach.

However, it does still sound like bollocks though! Grin

PermetsTu · 05/09/2015 10:30

DH is a copper in Norfolk.

Given that Liz spends an awful lot of her time in Norfolk, we have lots and lots of close protection officers here, I know some of them quite well. Smile

First hit on google for example

raffle · 05/09/2015 10:30

The Royals spend tons of time at Sandringham, and Wills and Kate live in Anmer which is also in Norfolk. Could easily be true.

ThisIsStillFolkGirl · 05/09/2015 10:33

Someone does the job.

Aramynta · 05/09/2015 10:34

Oh ahh, and Prince William operating the Air Ambulance in the region. He flew over my head the other day!

SolsburyHell · 05/09/2015 10:44

I don't know but if he's genuine, you're humiliating him online. That's quite a bit of personal info you've just given out about someone.

BerylStreep · 05/09/2015 10:54

Is this a taat? Can someone link please?

TenForward82 · 05/09/2015 10:59

Why would it be a TAAT? The OP is talking about online dating (OLD).

SilverBirchWithout · 05/09/2015 11:01

I originally come from Norfolk. A number of people do commute to London daily. 1hr 40mins by train.

BerylStreep · 05/09/2015 11:03

Sorry - ignore me. I didn't understand the OLD reference.

PermetsTu · 05/09/2015 11:20

Yes, as somebody married to a copper in Norfolk who knows most of the royalty protection officers and works closely with them, I could quite easily find one who is single and about to retire and take up a job in firearms... Very identifying.

SilverBirch is also right, vast swathes of people live in Norfolk and commute to London. In fact, some research years ago found that given the percentage of the Norfolk population that commutes to the city, we could rightly be labelled as a suburb of London.

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 05/09/2015 11:22

The only thing I'd say - boyfriend is a copper and we met online - is that he was a lot vaguer about exactly which area of policing he was in until he knew me better. With the threat level against officers pretty high at the moment it's not massively sensible to blab about it to strangers online. So he might just not be massively sensible maybe. Or my boyf was more paranoid Grin but otherwise those things sound kinda plausible.

Pensfriends · 05/09/2015 11:23

Would a royal family close protection officer disclose his job on OLD? Seems an odd thing to do

DoreenLethal · 05/09/2015 11:27

If he was he isn't likely to actually tell you until you have met and got to know each other to be honest.

OurBlanche · 05/09/2015 11:28

Saying you are in close protection has the same BS value as declaring your membership of the SAS Smile

Ledkr · 05/09/2015 11:31

Coppers here do a year in public protection (royals) before moving to firearms. Dh and I were chatting about this only yesterday, he is a copper.

Finola1step · 05/09/2015 11:32

Perfectly plausible. However, someone working in this field would be v cagey about that information. If its given freely, I would call BS.

suzannefollowmyvan · 05/09/2015 11:36

Yep BS, if it were true he'd not be bragging about it.
Also makes him sound a bit dim if he can't see the obvious flaws in his story ?

Wishful80smontage · 05/09/2015 11:42

Sounds like bs to me- avoid

Ledkr · 05/09/2015 11:43

Many aren't cagey though are they? They see it a s a badge of honour, especially if they are young uns.

It's a plausible story. The protection officers have a rep for not doing too much as the families they are assigned to are often not there much, so not exactly SAS.

PermetsTu · 05/09/2015 14:38

DH just nipped home and I mentioned this thread to him. He said the only bit he was a bit Hmm about was the disclosure of what the officer did during OLD. DH tells nobody what he does. Even our dc don't know, other than a vague 'he's a policeman'. Apparently Norfolk is the only force outside of the Met which has its own royal protection unit.

And yes, they're not too busy all the time. It's bog all like the SAS. If you were going to go for a full on Walter Mitty, you'd probably choose something else. Last time we bumped into a member of royal protection on shift, he was sitting in his car, eating a bacon sandwich and filling in paperwork. Rock and roll. Grin

RachelZoe · 05/09/2015 14:41

Bullshit. Anyone who actually did a job like that wouldn't tell you straight away, it's just not how people like that roll, they would say something like "I'm in security", not open with the flashy job. Same as an SAS or similar person would probably just say "I'm a soldier". True power and esteem/confidence is never braggy.

ChilliAndMint · 05/09/2015 14:59

Bullshit I'm afraid.

I was talking to a prison officer a while back, he couldn't tell me where exactly ( about 5 in the area) but sent a link. His emails are not private some government agencies can and do keep tabs on employees.

No one in his position would disclose such information.
